-lacking proficiency grants disadvantage on ability checks, saving throws, or attack rolls that use Str or Dex and can't cast spells
-lacking the Str requirement reduces movement speed by 10'
-can doff heavy armor in one minute if the straps are cut with a bladed tool, must be repaired before it can be equipped again
