Interstellar Colony Flagship

Overview

Interstellar Colony Flagships are the largest class of colony ships that the Kepek Commonwealth produce and are the largest ships used by any creature in the galaxy. They act as flagships to the fleets of colony ships, provide housing for millions of space-dwelling Kepek and ferry recourses between the colonies that can't be teleported over large distances (or at all)

Power Generation

There are a multitude of ways there colossal ships generate power, and many use a combination of different methods, both as a backup and for specific tasks.   Ships that spend a lot of time in or around star systems or other high-energy objects often have a system of panels that can turn radiation into usable power (similar to a solar panel, but using much more of the electromagnetic spectrum). This energy is then used to power the ship's internal systems, provide electricity to the ship's inhabitants and power the Warp Drive. Any excess power is stored in series of batteries so the ship can maintain power, even when not close to a star system or other source of radiation.   Many ships also use a liquid fuel source, which is used specifically for powering the thrusters and low-speed engines.   Ships that spend a lot of time in deep-space also often have bioreactors to act as an additional source of power or thruster fuel. These reactors turn organic material into power, though they are unpopular among certain groups of Kepek who view them as unethical due to the fact that replicated organic material doesn't seem to give off the same energy output, and so natural organic material must be used. To keep the process as ethical as possible, there are many laws surrounding what can and can't be used in bioreactors, put in place by the Kepek Commonwealth and any creatures raised for the purpose of creating bioreactor fuel must be treated with respect and dignity.

Propulsion

Interstellar Colony Flagships have two main propulsion systems. Thrusters and an Interstellar-Flagship Class Warp Drive.   The Interstellar-Flagship Class Warp Drive is purpose-built for the Interstellar Colony Flagships. It is capable of propelling the ship via rippling space, allowing for high-speed travel at a relatively low fuel cost, and can create large-scale wormholes for warp-jumping when faster-than-light travel is needed.   When slower speeds or more precision is needed, however, the standard thrusters are used. This creates propulsion by igniting a fuel source, and is much safer to use in close proximity to other ships, planets and space stations, but much more costly to use.

Armor and defense

Older Interstellar Colony Flagships don't have much in the way of defence built-in. They do, however, have Fleet Defence Ship as part of their fleets. These ships are deployed when threats to the ship are detected, including other hostile ships or talbek to protect the flagship and its fleet. Most of the Intersellar Colony flagships in use currently do however have defensive turrets and Repellent Shields as well as Fleet Defence Ships.   In the event a catastrophic system failure happens, the top section of the ship can detach and is large enough to hold the entire ship's population (although not comfortably). The emergency escape pod has no warp drive, but powerful thrusters to aid in escaping from threats.

Additional & auxiliary systems

Movable wings

The wings on the Interstellar Colony Flagship make an X shape when fully extended and have a series of small thrusters along their edges and on their bottom sides. the first pair of wings are movable, and when in hyperspace, these wings are folded in for safety, but when in regular space, they fold out to aid in manoeuvrability.

chromatashift paint

All Interstellar Colony Flagships are covered in a coat of chromatashift paint, which allows their colour to be changed as needed without having to expend huge amounts of money on repainting them.
