Hyperdrake

The bones of the page, the creatures who hold the page together. Hyperdrakes are immortal serpents that are a fundemental element to the cycle of The Page. These massive beasts are capable of swallowing entire sectors to catch the souls of dead stars and birth them anew. The belly of a hyper drake is also the only known way in existance to free the souls trapped within Shiftsteel, and Hyperdrakes hunt and consume large concentrations of Shiftsteel, and in turn the empires that produce them.
Hyperdrakes were first brought in to existance by Vanae when the first stars began to die. Dead stars began to leech on other stars, killing them more quickly and making for an entropic universe. Vanae knew her only two options were to allow The Page to continue it's decent in to nothing, or she could create a cycle. The immortal hyperdrakes were born to recycle the souls of dead stars and begin the cycle anew.
Unfortunately for Vanae, some millenia after the Hyperdrakes were formed upon the page, the discovery of shifsteel turned her attitude from doting to abhorrence. Mortals began to create shiftsteel in massive quantities, one ancient civilisation even turning an entire star in to shiftsteel. The Hyperdrakes were able to adapt to this and began to consume civilisations that produced large quantities of shiftsteel. However, Vanae became desperate to destroy what she had created. The pain that billions of souls were going through sorrowed her to the point of wanting to quench the universe forever. Unfortunately for Vanae, the Hyperdrakes were so dutiful they would allow nothing, not even their creator, to disrupt the cycle. She had lost control, and The Page became locked in a cycle viciously protected by Hyperdrakes.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Hyperdrakes are slender, serpentine beings that inhabit expansive amounts of space on The Page. A single hyperdrake's scale is hard to determine, but a single scale is measured to be the size of a typical Star.
The scales of Hyperdrakes are luminous crystalline formations that reflect the colour of the millions of miles of space around them, often making them appear in various combinations of pearlescent colours. These reflective scales also make a Hyperdrake difficult to see from extreme distances, as they act as natural camouflage.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Hyperdrakes do not have the traditional senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste, or smell. While capable of sometimes communicating with other hyperdrakes and mortals, this is done so telepathically. Hyperdrakes can sense the space around them with perfect accuracy, and are largely interested in the souls of dead stars or large quantities of Shiftsteel.
