The Ochre Jelly
The Ochre Jelly arrived in Wave Echo Cave through natural underground passages connected to the larger cave system. Centuries ago, when the mine was still active, the disturbance of deeper subterranean layers by miners created cracks that allowed the jelly to enter. Drawn by the moisture and darkness of the mine, the jelly slithered through the narrow passageways in search of food. The aftermath of the invasion, which left behind bodies and organic matter, created an ideal environment for the jelly to thrive. With ample food and no threats, the jelly settled in the old mine section, where it remains largely undisturbed.
The Ochre Jelly continues to reside in Wave Echo Cave because it has found a perfect habitat in the old mine’s abandoned tunnels. The darkness, damp conditions, and decaying organic material provide everything the creature needs to survive. Its solitary nature and ability to split and reform make it a persistent presence, and the absence of human activity in the deeper sections of the cave ensures that the jelly can continue its scavenging undeterred. Without natural predators or competition, the jelly has become a permanent inhabitant of the cave, lurking in the shadows and feeding off any unfortunate creature that crosses its path.
