The Ghouls of Wave Echo Cave

The Ghouls that now haunt the various sections of Wave Echo Cave are the twisted remnants of those who perished during the brutal invasion centuries ago. Among the fallen were many miners, warriors, and spellcasters who tried in vain to defend the mine, their bodies left to decay in the tunnels. Over time, the lingering necromantic magic and the dark forces that swept through the cave corrupted these corpses, reanimating them as Ghouls.
One particularly notorious figure among them is Shana Steelhand, a once valiant gnome sorceror and craftswoman of the forge. Known for her unyielding spirit, Shana fought to the last breath to protect her fellow artisans during the assault. Centuries later, her corpse was twisted, cursed by Mormesk the Wraith to roam the tunnels in which she once worked. Unlike most Ghouls, fragments of Shana's mind remain, driving her to target any intruders who disturb the deeper parts of the mine, as if she's still fighting against the onslaught that nearly collapsed the whole facility over 300 years ago.
