Rhan Wildhair
Rhan Wildhair is a retired adventurer who settled in Amphail after two decades of dungeon delving, mercenary contracts, and treasure runs from Icewind Dale to the Chultan jungles. He currently runs The Stag-Horned Flagon, possibly the best tavern and inn in the whole of Amphail. His nickname comes from his untamable mane of thick, wiry curls, now streaked with gray, which seems to defy all attempts at grooming — much like Rhan himself. Once a respected scout and survivalist in a party known as The Bronze Fangs, Rhan was the kind of adventurer who never ran from danger but always knew how to find the back door. He lost two fingers to a mimic posing as a bookshelf, and he keeps them in a jar behind the bar for “teachable moments.”
Now the proprietor of the Stag-Horned Flagon, Rhan is equal parts tavernmaster, storyteller, and reluctant referee to the rivalries between horse merchants and stablehands that swirl through Amphail. He rarely wears anything but his old leathers and a woolen vest patched with crests of places he’s been. Though he pretends to be gruff and uninterested, he keeps a mental ledger of every traveler who’s come through his door — and a hidden blade under the bar in case trouble finds them again. Those close to him know Rhan still harbors a deep wanderlust and occasionally disappears for “supply runs” that last weeks, always returning with some dusty bauble and a new scar.
Rhan’s pride, above all else, is in his collection of rotating Dwarven Ales. Including the current selection:
1. Embermaw Black – a smoky imperial stout from Citadel Adbar
2. Goldgullet Reserve – a buttery golden ale from Mirabar
3. Frostmantle Bock – a spiced bock brewed in the Marches
4. Deepdelver’s Reward – nutty brown ale from the cellars of Mithral Hall
5. Copperhelm’s Kiss – sharp, red-tinted ale from Ironmaster
6. Stoneghost Brew – rare, high-ABV barleywine said to inspire strange dreams
