Stellar Autarky

Stellar Autarky is an economic principle that gained widespread popularity following the The Antimatter Crisis. It suggests that each inhabited star system should be capable of sustaining itself independently of other systems. Stellar Autarky has been adopted to varying degrees by numerous states, particularly the star states of the Outer Systems region. While the most extreme examples see star states relying almost exclusively on domestic industries, more common forms of Stellar Autarky involve merely ensuring that individual systems are able to meet the basic needs of their inhabitants in times of crisis.
