The Festival of the Eligni

The people of Layman's Belt are most focused on the powers of art, creativity and ingenuity. This is exceptionally clear when you look at the Council of the Belt's history and its purpose. But for the average person, the most obvious time this focus is shown is during the Festival of the Eligni, a great week-long festival celebrating the freedom of the Eligni people, the great sacrifice of Caleb Puff and the newfound recognition of the Eligni as people that came of this moment.   The Festival of the Eligni is a chance for inventors, chefs, engineers, artists, blacksmiths, sculptors, potters, jewellers, crafters, singers, dancers, musicians and authors to show off their creativity and achievements. A third of Caleb's Rest is dedicated to small and large tents and stalls for people to sell their wares and flaunt their many creative designs. People sing in the streets, dancing along to bands as they create new works of art that everyone can join in with, sculptors and painters capture passers-by in stunning pieces and give them away for free, chefs throw together impressive and intimidating dishes in a performance unlike any other, fire and smoke throwing themselves up from pans and woks. The display is sure to catch your eye, especially with the vast number of different colours and fashion styles on display thanks to the many different variations of Eligni and non-Eligni that walk the roads in awe.   At the end of the first day, celebrants light small candles in paper lamps and let them soar into the sky. Often, people write messages to the Saints, to the things that may lie out in the black, promises they intend to keep or simple thanks to the universe.
