Humans

These are exactly as you'd imagine them: two-legged fellas of all shapes, sizes, and colors, found all across the Otherverse - though they mostly stick to the Overworld.
Show spoiler
Before the land's separation from the Old World, humans were widespread across the globe in several thriving nations, easily outnumbering the few other outlying races hidden away in their own corners of the world.
It is a scientifically proven fact that humans, for the most part, have souls. Which is nice, sure...but you know what's cool about having a soul? It means you can do magic. Souls aren't just a part of who you are that you're born with. They're a sort of neutral, empty spirit that seek out and bind themselves to newborn humans to watch over them, and eventually - with some proper training - assist them in more meaningful and direct ways. Souls can be made to extend a human's natural abilities, sharpening their senses, bolstering their willpower, suppressing their presence from prying eyes, and so on. But those are just some nifty perks. The real deal is proper magic - which, as modern mages will tell you before waving you off before returning to their studies, is the manifestation of hella rad effects like fireballs, portals, etc. within the world as per precise instructions known as spells written in an ancient language now simply called spellcode. Most of what there was to know about magic was forgotten, left behind with an older age of man - leaving newer generations of humans to rediscover the secrets of spellcode in ruins across the land, or by seeking out others in the know, or in some cases even from curious whispers and hazy visions in their dreams at night.   Magic ain't all humanity's been up to in its latest run. Some people have also been innovating in the field of mechanical technology, which will eventually interweave with magic to get the best of both worlds. Some are explorers, carving their way through the vast and verdant wilds that cover much of their land, seeing the sights and paving the way for new settlements to spring up in their wake. Some are bandits or builders or biologists studying the many creatures of the world which range from cute to deadly. And, given time, some will take up the title of soldiers as war finds a way into the stories of mankind once more.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Nothing out of the ordinary, physically.

Genetics and Reproduction

I'm not having the "birds and the bees" talk with you in the middle of this breakdown of the human race, if that's what you're asking for.

Ecology and Habitats

Most of the Overworld is habitable to humans, and they're quite willing to test that notion, finding themselves all over the place and butting heads with local wildlife.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans farm, forage, and find plenty of critters to satiate their hunger. It's like Monster Hunter out there in the deep wilds, seriously.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Those with practice can strengthen the link with their own soul and often have greater perception and reflexes in general, and can even see soulstuff in themselves and others, as well as in the world around them wherever spellcraft is at work.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Depends on the nation! They all speak largely the same language but certain sounds come up more often in different cultures.

Major Organizations

Mainlanders, Galvians, and Farfolk...which I'll elaborate on and/or rename later!

Average Technological Level

Over the ages, it'll range from downright medieval to "magic sufficiently advanced so as to be indistinguishable from technology". At which point it might look kinda sci-fi if you squint, what with all the magical glowy light panel interfaces. Shit's like Windows but in meatspace.

Common Myths and Legends

There is a place known as the Underworld. It's difficult to reach, but you'll know you're there when the world seems to have flip-turned upside down. It's a hellscape riddled with monsters and demons. Probably just a myth, right?   Also, whether magic is sourced from a natural phenomenon known as "the Aether" or from one or more all-powerful deities is unclear for a great many years.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The demon race is relatively humanoid...I'm just sayin'. Like, I'm not sayin', y'know...but y'know what I'm sayin'.
