History

In 825 BF the Imperial Tithe from The Imperial Artisan's Guild included a set of ten Legionnaire short swords. Each were fine if simple weapons. The only embellishments was the golden chasing on the pommel . Empress Peldina III wished the Century Captains assigned to the guard Royal Compound to be issued them. For 155 years the blades were passed to the new Century Captain of the Royal Imperial Legion at the formal change of command. In 670 command of the 3rd Century of the Royal Imperial Legion was held by Century Captain Sofia Helvin. The Empire planned a realm-wide celebration to commemorate the 1500 years of The Empire's existence.
During the Crystal Falcon Ball assassins infiltrated the capitol with designs to slay as many of the Imperial Family as could be managed. Captain Helvin while moving from one the posts under her command to the next during her inspection spied several figures moving from one avenue to another while sticking to the shadows. Captain Helvin drew her sword and activated it's magic, causing the sword to glow with an inner heat that illuminated the area around her for several paces. Calling the alarm she charged. This group of assassins, discoverd while on a narrow path, were caught between the Captain and a two man patrol of Shadowguards. Pinned between light and shadows the assassins were slain.
Alarm raised the entire compound was locked down and sweeps were conducted to root out any more enemies. A full dozen were discovered during the search. Captain Helvin herself discovered two more while the were scaling one of the palace walls to a balcony that led to Princess Tia, third child of Emperor Lucai II.
In recognition of her part in protecting the Royal Family the Emperor decreed that Century Captain Helvin would be permitted to carry the sword now named Helvin's Brand for her entire life. When she passed of Winter's Kiss in 630 BF her eldest child carried the blade to Mor Daven.
For another two centuries Helvin's Brand and the other 9 enchanted swords were born by the Imperial Royal Legion. They were all returned to the Imperial Vaults when new weapons were commissioned. Unlike most of the magic arms in the Vaults Helvin's Brand was never reissued or pulled from the vault until 3 BF when the new Provincial Governor of Sendilar), Isabella Reving , selected as part of her Imperial Trust. It remained in her family's possession when she became the Queen of Sendilar in 2 AF
