NovelEmber-ish and Kinda-Sorta WorldEmber Prep

There being no official NovelEmber pledge, my WorldEmber homework serves double duty. But...

I will not write a novel.

Just want to make that clear from the start. I don't have the wherewithal to dedicate myself to producing 50,000 words in a single month. I do plan to write one eventually, but it won't all happen at once.   The thing is, I came to World Anvil five years ago with a fanfic I wanted to set on its own feet. I'd lost interest in the world it was set in, and everything I'd written was suddenly floating around without an anchor. Since then I've been trying to build up a world that will hold all the pieces together and weave them into its own story. Four Summer Camps and three WorldEmbers later, I've written...one chapter. That was three years ago, and while I've been happily worldbuilding away, I've been idling on the writing.   That changes now. This is my plan for NovelEmber: to write the next two chapters of the story. Maybe another, if the momentum carries me. (That'll be anywhere from 6,000-10,000 words if they turn out the same length as the first one.) I'm going to write even if I know what's coming out is garbage, because my WorldEmber this year will be for building out the parts of my world I will have learned I need to turn that garbage into gold. I will cheerfully pledge 10,000 words because that's a goal I know I can hit.   Because I'm so sure it will be garbage, my NovelEmber output will be entirely private. But I'll be keeping a public and active list of things I expect to work on during WorldEmber, to be updated with progress on each once WorldEmber actually starts.

And yes, I do need to check up on my meta. I started a new world this year that will require some small updates to this one. Also, I don't think I have a single link in it! Definitely have to fix that.

Well. That was a month.
It went something like this:
Day 1: start chapter 2, >500 words.
Day 2: start chapter 3, >500 words.
Day 3: work on both, >500 words.   Me: Yeah! This is going great! I'm totally on track to have these done by the end of November!
Brain: No.
Me: Say what?
Brain: No. Now you're going to fix the problems in your first chapter.
Me: Oh. Well, that makes sense to do. And it'll still count, because-
Brain: By adapting it into a comic book.
Me: Why do you do this to me?
Sure enough, I ended up sketching 15 pages. If a picture really is worth a thousand words, then I have nailed my planned wordcount. Unfortunately the chapters I intended to write are still a mishmash of disconnected snippets, so I won't be claiming the winner's badge. Even if I throw in my rubber-ducking what's wrong with chapter 2, I barely cleared half what I aimed for. It was a good try, just disappointing.   And while I was juggling all that, there wasn't any headspace left for the WorldEmber homework. So my meta is only slightly updated, I've done nothing to enhance my world's front page, I don't have any inspiring images or music, and I'm still the digital hermit I've always been. WorldEmber has already begun and I'm still tying my shoes at the starting line.   And yet, somehow, I feel ready.
