Naheni

Naheni asked to be allowed to write her own biographical brief so that she could practice her Oceantongue. I have made very few corrections to grammar and vocabulary, and only in cases where I felt the mistake would lead the reader to confusion.

Greetings to those who read my words, and I wish you Fortune's favor. I am Naheni Tozei, with twenty-four years behind me now. I come from Chawso in the Vastland, which we call Valdei. Now I am here at this place that you call the Eddy. I will tell you now what made me come from one place to the other.

The story of my journey

My family is one of those that makes food grow for people far away who need to eat. Families of many children will send them to study different things so that the family will be wealthy in knowledge. I went to the middle of Chawso to study medicine. There was another there who was one of the Mosaca. She also wanted to learn medicine, although she knew much before.
This woman talked to us of the medicine that she knew, and also of a kind of healing that only few could do. It was a powerful but dangerous way, she said. I think she said this to make us not want it. But I was born in the Floating City, and many times my family has seen the swift river fill every part of the land around us. We understand that powerful and dangerous things are also valuable and needed.
The woman also said that a special skill is needed to do this healing. Small movements of water. But I can make those, and when she saw this, she agreed to help me go to the place where they know the healing.
