egg transfer bag

To collect eggs for consumption, you only need to keep them from breaking. Transferring eggs between breeding nests, however, requires maintaining the egg at a high enough temperature to keep the incubating chick alive in the process. If the nests are in the same yard, the egg can be moved quickly without any difficulty. But if the egg is going to another yard, the simplest method is to place it in a heated bag.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The bag's heat comes from the crystallization of vinegar salt coming out of solution. Squeezing the activation button presses two metal beads together, triggering the formation of the first crystals. The process spreads quickly throughout the entire bag, generating a uniform heat. Kneading the bag immediately after it is activated breaks the crystals and leaves it more flexible.   To restore the bag to its usable state, it must be submerged in boiling water until the crystals dissolve, then allowed to cool gradually. It should be stored in a sheltered location away from any other tools, since a shock to the bag could trigger the crystallization prematurely.

Restrictions

To get maximum benefit from the bag, it should be activated just before the egg is to be placed inside. After all the solution has crystallized, the bag generates no additional heat. After two hours the temperature may fall below what is safe for an incubating chick.

Raw materials & Components
The bag is made from two sheets of watertight lining heat-sealed into the shape of a sack. Fused strips create channels so that the solution fills all the interior space without pooling to the bottom of the bag.   Since the crystallization process releases more heat than is strictly safe for the egg, the hollow of the bag is lined with heat-absorbing material. As the solution emits its greatest heat the material protects the egg from cooking under the shell. As the crystals cool the material then re-emits the heat, extending the length of time the bag can be used.
