Aggressive Negotiations
General Summary
Alatsar sat morosely in his prison cell, wishing for rum and his data-ghost friend, Humphrey. His friends had sailed off in The Ravager beyond the horizon's line. He however, was stuck in a brig, doomed to sobriety.
It was a miserable existence. And one he was to shortly escape.
They were none too soon in there entry. Danger in the form of two pirate armadas was emerging across the horizon. Gretta yelled frantically at them to hurry. She recognized the flag ships. They belonged to Macklyn the Adventerous and Radnyck the Rabbke Rouser. Inside the temple, clean air and sterile walls greeted the party. There were two doors, one to the left and one to the right. The party chose the one on the left. Inside, there were rows of cryo chambers. They stretched on and on in sets of eight or nine. Brute and Dorian examined the nearest one. There was an official looking man in a uniform lying in sleep. He had a security badge on his olive uniform and held some sort of device in his folded hands. Colonel Blaster started pressing random buttons on a nearby panel. To his surprise, it worked! The row of eight pods they were nearest began their wake-up cycle. In the room to the left, Teju found the ancient forms of animals that she had only seen in the data at Teln! These were the revered forms that she and her people took to distinguish themselves from the other animals around them. Each animal was held in cryo as well. No one freed them yet. Colonel Blaster looked about for ice cream but found none.
Dorian took the key card and badge from the official looking man and looked around the room. He was able to find a small room off the side that no one had noticed yet. He gained access to it and inside, found an odd looking device from centuries ago. The group crowded in behind him, taking a look at artifact. Could this be the thing they were looking for?
The official looking man in the left room revived enough to speak. His name, as they discovered, was Captain Henry of the 7th Fleet. He immediately inquired after ship and crew. But as he spoke, he became aware of just how long he had slept.
3000 years. Enough time for him to have met the very first queen of the Guardians and her advisors, the nine princesses. Teju broke the news to him gently. He immediately started to wake up his crew.
When questioned, Captain Henry revealed that his ship was merely a scientific research vessel and was not space worthy at that time. Its shields could repel lasers but not projectiles. Shanna groaned. As fantastic as their discovery was, it appeared that the second temple would be no help to them in stopping the pirate fleets.
However, Captain Henry did reveal the use of the artifact. The device, which was an old helmet and appearance, have the ability to scan someone starts and reveal the truth about any situation without bias. Once it was transferred to another person, the two people could form peace with a complete understanding. Humans, he explained, has used it with the Guardians.
Captain Henry was curious to go with them. He woke up his second in command and gave instructions for the waking of the ship. Then he joined the party in Gretta’s galleon. Hurriedly, they raced to face down the pirate fleets on the eastern island. The artifact would be enough to stop the chaos from unfolding.
In short, the pirate battle was not too much of a battle. Dorian won acclaim by taking a bullet fired by Radnyck that would have hit the Ábe otherwise. Shanna, in defense of the faction leaders, distinguished herself by incinerating twelve enemies at once. Even Barlo had the sense to be impressed by that.
Radnyck was dragged off for peace talks. One by one, the Ábe, Oxlyn, and Macklyn shared their thoughts through the helmet. They united in defense of the island. They also agreed to come to Ghan’s aid should the king require it. Only Radnyck did not unite with them. His brain, unable to reconcile himself the differences, failed him. He became a vegetable for life.
Colonel blaster finally tasted ice cream. He and Vincent were very happy. Shanna, amazed by the power of the peace artifact, decided to use it and travel about the continent with Barlo, making peace with all mankind. Her association (not a cult) would be called The Order of the White Flame.
It was only a short time before a royal ship arrived to them back to Ghan. They had no idea what lay in store for them.
The Negotiations Were (not) Short
Shanna nearly puked over the edge of the ship again. Gretta gave her a disapproving look and sighed. Tried as she might, Shanna would never make a decent sailor. Barlo grumbled to himself and offered a clean cloth, slightly queasy himself. Meanwhile, Colonel Blaster discussed the state of the world with Victor and Humphrey. Teju and her siblings strolled about deck, shapeshifting at will and keeping lookout. Dorian discussed politics with a few sailors. Brute stood stoically. After a day of sailing, Gretta received word that Oxlyn would be joining them at the Slavering Falls as well. When their destination came into view, the party understood why. The Sunken Temple was no longer sunken. Its golden circumference was clearly visible from the small islands outlying the swirling pool. However, it only seemed half-emerged. Gretta docked her ship at an island to the west and waited for Oxlyn to arrive. The next day dawned, spreading golden light across the camp. Oxlyn arrived and met Gretta on the beach. They immediately started to discuss what to do with the (not) Sunken Temple. It had fully emerged by the morning and surely attracted the attention of every faction in the archipelago. Omolade, one of Teju's older siblings, took part in the discussion as well. She, Dorian, and the others strategized and brainstormed what the best course of action would be. Dorian suggested that the pirates, led by Oxlyn, become privateers under Ghan and protect the Slavering Falls. Omolade warned that the people of the ring, the Vroaordun, already had an understanding with the Guardians. Her people would protect the ring. In fact, she was already quite miffed at the group for ignoring her royal status and her ability to declare war if need be. No one seem to pay her any mind. In the end, the faction leaders talked to the Guardian queen on an eastern island and decided on a short-term coalition. Once satisfied, Gretta took the party to the base of the (not) Sunken Temple. Tess Veridian, the archeologist, joined the party. A Surprise To Be Sure But a Welcome One The smooth surface of the temple was utterly devoid of any opening. Tess examined the blueprints she had found and examined the structure from her rowboat. Tala and Teju joined her as well. Shanna used her wind currents to find the smallest of cracks in the surface and was successful. Together, Tala and Tess carefully examined the spot and opened an ancient door. They were none too soon in there entry. Danger in the form of two pirate armadas was emerging across the horizon.
