Yggdrasil Death Rituals

History

The Yggdrasil pack has several beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife. They believe how a wolf dies will impact what kind of afterlife they receive.   The different types of deaths they have are as follows.

Natural Death

A wolf who dies of natural death is considered unimpressive to the gods. They will be allowed into Valhalla or given the chance at a second life in order to have a second death that will hopefully be more impressive.

Battle Death

A wolf who dies during battle or from wounds earned in battle is held in high regard by the gods. In Valhalla, they are given special rewards, a luxury den of their own, and are said to feast at the table of the gods.

Holmgang Death

A wolf who dies during a holmgang is entitled to the same privileges as one who died during a battle, however, the holmgang must be considered a fight. A fight means both wolves were able to land at least one blow on their opponent. If a wolf doesn't manage at least one blow and dies, they are denied Valhalla and are instead sent to Hel.

Outsider Death

Wolves from the Yggdrasil pack have the choice of leaving the pack whenever they wish to. However, they are immediately considered dead once they revoke their membership from the pack. The exception to this would be wolves who join another pack, but still, pledge loyalty to the Yggdrasil pack. A wolf who dies outside the pack is either reborn or to be sent to Hel. The decision is made randomly by the gods.

Sacrificial Death

Some wolves, most often voluntarily, are killed as a sacrificial tribute to the gods or their reincarnations. These wolves are automatically given the chance to be reborn as a new wolf or to remain in Valhalla.
