Cave Stalkers Invent Agriculture and Writing

Technological achievement

12,000 BC

After living as hunter-gatherers for many thousands of years, a group of Cave Stalkers learns how to grow crops of plants to harvest for food. Another group creates written glyphs for their language, and is able to teach new information to the young better. Soon, these practices become widespread among the species, and triggers the start of permanent settlements.

A particular group of Cave Stalkers living in an area between the Halocline Pits and the Kelp Forests domesticated various plant species from their environment, and began dedicating tracts of land for them to grow. The group responsible for this began staying in one place to make sure the food grew properly, and began fortifying their camps to protect against predators. Other Cave Stalkers began populating this place after hearing it was safe from the dangers of the wild.

Meanwhile, another tribe experienced in making art, began experimenting with a way to convey information quicker. They came up with a system of glyphs they could carve into rock and convey a message, soon becoming a writing system which was taught to other groups of Cave Stalkers, and spread throughout the species through diffusion. It became common to see large rocks with inscriptions upon them giving directions or warnings to traveling Cave Stalkers, and although most were illiterate, they could get a vague idea of the meanings.
