Red-Tip Kelp

Red-Tip Kelp are built just like most kelp species found in their habitat, standing out with their red tips, which are designed to emit scents to attract herbivorous creatures.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These tall plants are made up of a hardy stem, with leaves growing out of virtually all sides. The leaves themselves have a rough, coarse texture, while the roots extend a great distance away from the base of the stem. Near the base of the leaf stems grow various fruits, some large and seedy, others filled with substances similar to nectar.

Genetics and Reproduction

This species relies mainly on animal dispersal to ensure the survival of its spores. The plant's leaves emit scents from the tips to attract various herbivorous creatures, which eat both the leaves and the small fruits that grow near the base of the leaf stems. The seeds inside the fruits will then pass through the digestive tract and emerge far away from the parent plant, able to grow on its own.

Growth Rate & Stages

Newborn Red-Tips start out appearing as one long thin stem, only getting thicker with age. Eventually, the sapling will begin growing its leaves, but will only gain the fruits and scents in maturity.

Ecology and Habitats

Red tips live in the Forests and have only been found growing far away from other plants, thought to be due to their extensive roots. Their ability to grow far away from other plants helps them stand out more for herbivores to find.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Red-Tip Kelps are chemosynthetic just most Nightlight Zone plants.

Biological Cycle

Red-Tip Kelp will occasionally shed a few leaves if they get too old and withered, where they will promptly be replaced. This process occurs over and over again when the plant gets stripped of its leaves from creatures feeding off of it.
