Shadowkind*

Shadowkind.jpg
A few years after the first portals opened, a handful of people emerged. They appeared vaguely Elf-like, their skin color tending towards alabaster white, ebon black, or subtle grays - and always with a purple tint. Most of them have horns, from subtle nubs to large and obvious protrusions. When asked who they were or where they came from, they had only vague, disjoint memories of places and people long gone. They say they woke from a half-remembered dream and found themselves in our world - confused. Surprisingly the only language they seemed to speak was Elvish.   Their behavior seems mysterious to other races. At times they seem calculating and logical and others half-mad or whimsical. Some of them seem to have multiple personalities as if multiple people's memories reside in their heads. All of them, it seems, are most comfortable in the twilight hours or in the shadows away from direct sunlight - and this is where the name stems. Their true name is unknown, even by them, and Shadowkind was a name given to them by our world.   A few, usually the adventurous type, have pushed themselves to stand in the sunlight and truly join the society. Others seek to explore the worlds, in order to find out more about themselves.

Shadowkind Names

Naming conventions among the shadowkind are similar to those favored by elves, but their imagery seems to be darker and more guarded.   Male Names: Drilfind, Edgwin, Ethdrin, Lorinidral, Quentor, Shanles, Thanascil, Torvobar, Varratir, Vashrin   Female Names: Anorla, Bornva, Dulira, Fanwi, Girethdra, Lanrama, Methada, Phorla, Suzenga, Thortha

How They View Other Races

The Shadowkind have been in our world for almost a decade now. In that time, they have been met with both curiosity and fear. They tend to identify with the Sudaga, Automata, and Elves because they see them as being in similar circumstances - just a few of them trying to fit themselves into a much larger society. Yet the Shadowkind are often mistrusted - and many of the Shadowking return the lack of trust. Many of them have been interrogated - sometimes rather harshly - for their knowledge, as disjointed as it is. But others have treated them with kindness.

Shadowkind Traits

Your Shadowkind character has a variety of natural Abilities, though they seem surprisingly similar to the Elves of our world.   Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Charisma increases by 1.   Age. It is difficult to tell, but it seems that the Shadowkind live almost as long as Elves. Most of the Shadowkind seem to be in the range of 30 - 200 years old, as far as we can tell.   Size. Shadowkind range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.   Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Darkvision. Accustomed to the shadows and twilight, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only Shades of Gray.   Shadowkind Weapon Training. You don't know why or how, but you are trained with the Rapier, Shortsword, Shortbow, and Longbow.   Path of Shadows. When in darkness, dim light, or a shadow large enough to cover your body, you can cast the misty step spell. You can use this ability a number of times per long rest equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for this spell.   Broken Memories. When encountering a notable landmark or new type of terrain in another world, you may have a flash of insight - a memory may untangle itself from your fractured past.   When encountering a notable landmark or new type of terrain for the first time in Lumev, you might have a flash of insight (ask the GM). If so then roll 1D8:
