Phobos Ansible

The Phobos Ansible is one of the few ansibles, devices capable of transmitting messages through jump space, in the known galaxy, and therefore one of the most important communication structures in civilized space. Located at the heart of the Union of Sol, and within its own military compound, it serves as the centerpiece of military communications for the Union. It was a relic from before the Great Cataclysm, as a part of one the last major infrastructure development programs carried out by the Stellar League before the start of the Jred Scourge, and is one of the few ansibles to survive in the centuries since the near collapse of interstellar civilization.
The ansible itself was largely built out of the hollowed out caverns of Phobos itself, as the sheer enomrity of the structures necessary to penetrate Jumpspace without a massive object, and the fuel necessary to power the creation of such a jump bubble. In addition to the ansible itself, there are a number of other facilities. The largest single cavern is host to the base of the device, with fuel deposits being located in multiple smaller caverns to avoid destruction of the device by fuel detonation. Most important of these, are the barracks for the psions that are necessary to make the ansible actually work. However, in addition to these, there are all the facilities of a fairly sizable naval fleet yard, including repair facilities, fuel and ammunition depots, and even shipyards capable of producing smaller craft, as well as a base for marines. These facilities were developed after the Great Cataclysm by the Union of Sol in order to secure and protect their strategic asset. The ansible is serviced by relatively elite members of the Union of Sol's military including an entire company of marines as well a flotilla from the navy, as well as quick access to the fleets stationed around Mars. Access to Phobos is extremely strict, and its only a handful of personnel outside the Solar military that can access to base without being shot, or pushed out of an airlock.
