Alnaaji

Alnaaji, New Raqqan Arabic for "survivor" is a title in certain Islamic sects describing a person who survived the Scourging of Earth during the Jred Scourge, or their descendants. In particular it has import with the Alhaju Aleazim which view the survivors as being especially pure of faith to have avoided the worst of the Jred's attacks. Though for most, this particular title imparts no special privileges or powers, in Hajaaji tradition the status as Alnaaji makes one places one in a higher level of consideration to be selected for the role of Imam in a local Hajaaji community. Many Alanaajiun families, due to their close contact with the Jred have also started well known families of Psionic individuals which can be a blessing and a curse depending on which societies they find themselves in.

History

The concept of an Alnjaaiin was formed in the chaos surrounding the end of the Jred Scourge, as only a relatively small handful of people survived the Scourging of Earth. Though they were made refugees by the attack, they found a home in some scattered communities across the Sol Sector. When a large community of survivors hailing from the Arabian peninsula arrived on the world of New Raqqa a new Mujaddid, Hasan ibn-Rashid az-Zaidi had already developed a community that would eventually become the Hajaajun , this new religious movement spread throughout the society of New Raqqa like wildfire, and became one of the major sects of Islam in the galaxy. Its initial disciples, those refugees from Earth, attained a special status within the community, something which passed on to their descendants. In other sects, the matter of the Earth survivors varied significantly, with many placing similar emphasis on them, a rare few treating the Alnaajun as outcasts, but most not making any significant change to religious law surrounding those who survived the Scourging of Earth.

Cultural Significance

Alnaajun are generally considered at least somewhat special by most sects of Islam, however, the degree of specialness that one holds as Alnaaji changes fairly significantly depending on which sect is followed. In Hajaaji tradition, Alnaajun are extremely important, and those who can claim the title are given the right to serve as Imam over any other consideration. In the militantly anti-Jred, anti-Psionic sect of Almukhlis Islam, the Alnaajun are considered dangerous however, as their proximity to the Jred, and high degree of Psionic ability makes them a threat to monitored at best, or destroyed at worst. For most Muslims however, the status is a lot less dramatic, something to be looked over and possibly offered some consideration, possibly even a higher standing on matters of leading prayer, but nothing as concrete as those sects which have been heavily influenced by the great war with the Jred.
