The Bard
Humming as she traces her fingers over an ancient monument in a long-forgotten ruin, a half-elf in rugged leathers finds knowledge springing into her mind, conjured forth by the magic of her song—knowledge of the people who constructed the monument and the mythic saga it depicts.
A stern human warrior bangs his sword rhythmically against his scale mail, setting the tempo for his war chant and exhorting his companions to bravery and heroism. The magic of his song fortifies and emboldens them.
Laughing as she tunes her cittern, a gnome weaves her subtle magic over the assembled nobles, ensuring that her companions’ words will be well received.
Whether scholar, skald, or scoundrel, a bard weaves magic through words and music to inspire allies, demoralize foes, manipulate minds, create illusions, and even heal wounds.
In The Nameless Trilogy World
Music and theatre have always been central to the human(oid) experience, which makes the bard particularly prolific throughout the nations. For instance, they could be a tavern musician or a member of the local symphony orchestra or a drummer of a marching band. If it's theatre that most interest you, then they could be a screenwriter for newly invented "movers," which use magic and technology to create photo-realistic images on a screen that move and talk as if it were actually happening. In this modern era, the technology available to bards is also much expanded. In addition to the usual violin, flute, or tambourine still in use by classic bards, the bards of today also have access to brass instruments like saxophones and tubas. Rudimentary electricity has also given rise to electric guitars - though be warned: you will have to carry around an amp for it to be of any effect on the battlefield.
