The Barbarian
A tall human tribesman strides through a blizzard, draped in fur and hefting his axe. He laughs as he charges toward the frost giant who dared poach his people’s elk herd.
A half-orc snarls at the latest challenger to her authority over their savage tribe, ready to break his neck with her bare hands as she did to the last six rivals.
Frothing at the mouth, a dwarf slams his helmet into the face of his drow foe, then turns to drive his armored elbow into the gut of another.
These barbarians, different as they might be, are defined by their rage: unbridled, unquenchable, and unthinking fury. More than a mere emotion, their anger is the ferocity of a cornered predator, the unrelenting assault of a storm, the churning turmoil of the sea.
For some, their rage springs from a communion with fierce animal spirits. Others draw from a roiling reservoir of anger at a world full of pain. For every barbarian, rage is a power that fuels not just a battle frenzy but also uncanny reflexes, resilience, and feats of strength.
In The Nameless Trilogy World
In the world of the Nameless Trilogy, the barbarian may be seen as a crude or brash choice, but it is a noble class. Many a soldier during the Tenfold War will recount the times, pinned down by gunfire and artillery, when they were miraculously saved by the brave and dauntless barbarian charging recklessly into the enemy lines. Rage is not seen by the barbarian as a weakness or a vice, but just another tool to be used to defeat their enemies. When considering the barbarian as a class, consider the following. How would a barbarian fit into society? Do they have a day-job that involves a lot of heavy-lifting, perhaps as a construction worker or a dock assistant, until they hear the call-to-arms? Or are they in the wilderness beyond the city, a silent bastion of fortitude against the monsters that dwell out there? In this modern era, how does your character act as a barbarian without breaking the laws of society, and who do they ultimately answer to? And before you think that you are the strongest guy in the world, remember that there are plenty of soldiers belonging to this class in the employ of the police or the military.
