Wyldrot in The Mystic | World Anvil

Wyldrot

Shrouded in mystery, a malevolent curse torments The Mystic. Predominantly afflicting those who overstay in the neighboring woods or are revived from death, it insidiously gnaws at sanity, inducing a maddening labyrinth of delirium and grotesque bodily mutations. Victims live a torturous year at most, gradually succumbing to their decaying physical and mental states. They babble eerie nonsense, their voices a chilling soundtrack to the locale, while their sleep is terrorized by horrific nightmares.

Lilith Ebonveil's Notes:

Though extreme efforts and research I have made leaps of discoveries in the curse... what is my reward? Expulsion. Fuck the Arcane Order. Xanaphia just wants all the glory for herself...   Nevertheless, my research has continued. True wyldrot only occurs after being revived from a death in The Mystic. Lesser more temporary wyldrot can occur through extreme trauma, some dark monster attacks, or extended stay in Rotwood.
Wyldrot symptoms include:
  • Altered cognition: Some speak in tongues or understand ancient languages no one has ever heard.
  • Physiological changes: Barkskin, antlers, body hair lengthening, changes in the eyes, claws, fangs, elongation of limbs, and more.
  • Enhanced senses
  • Extreme Paranoia
  • Predatory traits
  • Dietary changes. (Craving of raw blood and meat)
  • Soon their altered state drives them to insanity or their body can nolonger handle the changes and they die.

Some anomolies:

There are whispers. Some of my experiments have spoken something old and unholy deep within Rotwood. A druid told me that the trees are weeping. The monsters in Wyldwood are not hunting, they are fleeing something. Something dreadful lurks in these woods...
