Isadora Santiago

The Seraph of Kindness, Deception, and Shapeshifting Isadora Eleanor Santiago (a.k.a. The Heiress of the Xana)

Isadora Santiago is a sweet, unusual, descendant of an angel of lies and a human. She was the first person Althos ever met, and he became a deity of truth by confessing to her that he was a deity, something which until that point he had kept a secret from her. Isadora currently resides in the birthplace of Althos, the town of Comillas, or at least a copy of it located within his divine realm.  Isadora herself is a gentle soul who worships Althos as a god of goodness and positive change, and is considered one of the guardians of the birthplace of her god, though she'd surely balk at such a characterization.
-An angel of knowledge, discussing the very first friend Althos ever made, and one of the first humans to know of his true nature as a god, Isadora Santiago.
Isadora Santiago was the first character introduced in the story after Althos and the system itself. Althos' revelation to her that he is a god (which happens many chapters into the story) marks a major turning point in the story, wherein afterward he begins to acquire human worshipers alongside monster, animal, demon, and non-human humanoid worshipers.   Isadora Santiago is more than she appears, but her own true nature was a mystery to her until weeks after she met Althos. Meeting him fulfills, unbeknownst (at first), to her, a childhood dream of hers and later on, he begins to actively fulfill a childhood dream of hers by inviting her and her world into his divine realm.    Author's Note: This article is EXTREMELY unusual as it reveals a character's fate beyond the scope of the time that she has appeared in text, elaborating on her personality, childhood, and her actions beyond her time in the company of Althos, the protagonist. That said she is a favorite of the author's, and she is a fascinating character herself deserving of more time on-screen, so to speak, in the future. This article is centered around her, if she fascinates you then please continue reading on. If not, feel free to skip this article. Please do note, however, that most character entries in the World Anvil will be done in a way similar to this.   Also this article is very far from complete, but there is enough here that many readers may enjoy reading it as is.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Isadora is a perfectly health nephilim woman. She has begun to be trained in combat and undergoes daily physical conditioning. She is capable of many superhuman feats such as shapeshifting, flight, and has in moments of stress demonstrated super speed, for reasons beyond her awareness, though she has speculated that Althos is marking her as a guardian of sorts and bestowing her with powers beyond her natural abilities to protect her.

Body Features

Isadora, when she is feeling especially powerful or radiant reveals her beautiful scarlet wings, which otherwise normally stay invisible and tucked behind her back. Her wings are enormous and powerful and she has used them in sparring matches with her angelic sparring partners to great effect. Other than that, unless she is otherwise shapeshifted, she looks perfectly human.

Facial Features

Isadora has many freckles and they are one of her most attractive features according to many of the residents of the town that is in effect "New Comillas", a much bigger place than the Comillas of Torus.

Identifying Characteristics

Those who can spot invisible objects can always see her large scarlet wings. That is one of the few identifying characteristics she has.

Physical quirks

Isadora is capable of flight without wings, but a strange quirk she has is that she never flies when she has her wings out, only flying when they invisible to those around her. Isadora has wings, but she normally keeps them invisible unless she needs to intimidate someone.

Special abilities

Isadora's primary unusual abilities are her ability to shapeshift and her ability to manifest a weapon keyed to her soul that is unique to her: a powerful one-handed mace that can deal damage to an object or person without physically marking them, allowing her to use it to deal damage unseen by anyone but felt by the person or object she struck.

Specialized Equipment

Isadora's main specialized equipment is her mace, a large and intimidating object that can deal damage to people and objects without scarring them. Aside from that, as of the time-skip she also has a cell-phone and a personal computer, some of the new technology coming to the divine realm that is responsible for slowly beginning to change it for the better, as families become better able to speak with each other across vast distances and allowing for easier construction and management of businesses.

Personal history

The Beginning:

Isadora Santiago is the child of Mathias Santiago and his wife Jennifer Santiago. She was born in the mainland of the Reconquista empire and moved to Comillas when she was a young child.   Isadora had an unremarkable childhood that consisted of her being schooled by her parents, who themselves didn't have much in terms of education, and her spending her nights helping out various farmers and families who'd come by her family's inn for dinner. She was an energetic child and one who was quite social, though she safely chose to follow her family's instructions and stayed away from the magical forest near Comillas unless she was accompanied by a relative or an adventurer.    As a child, she dreamed of meeting and standing in front of a higher being, as her family, due in part to their own angelic genes, had succeeded in faintly remembering the gods and other higher beings and rose her on tales of their power and glory. She never actually imagined that one day she'd be able to do so though.    For the first 22 years of her life she expected little more out of life than to be a simple receptionist and eventually an heiress, specifically of her family's business, the Silver Xana, an inn in the town of Comillas. That said, her life changed forever the day that Althos sprung to life, fully grown, inside of her family's inn.    Althos met her minutes after coming to life within her family's inn, in a room that the system itself arranged to be paid for in the time between Althos' first thoughts and the moment he actually sprang to life, fully formed and grown. Isadora Santiago is actually the very first person Althos ever met, and his first impression of her was quite good.    The beginning of the time the two spent together consisted mostly of the two discussing quests and having idle conversations. This was during the time that Althos was completing the tutorial and gaining full control over his powers. That said, Althos continued to rely on her for quests and for learning how to help the people of Comillas, she was the one who pointed him to various tasks he did during his first few weeks of life such as giving a tour to the elves who'd spread his religion to their empire, and also helped him learn about druids when he was a newborn.    Eventually, to gain power over the subdomain of truth, Althos had to approach her and tell her what he was. He did that after defeating the reptilefolks who practiced slavery in the region underneath Puerto Rico, a common type of region throughout the worlds of universe S-2 known as a "World Beneath a World". When Althos told her the truth about his nature as a god her long-dormant Nephilim genes reawoke and she spontaneously discovered an unknown truth about herself: she was a hybrid, a descendant of a coupling between an angel of lies and a human.    As she learned that truth she barraged Althos with questions about being a god. He revealed many truths about divinity to her, and later that night she would pledge herself to him, though she didn't do this face to face. She was certain she'd have been unable to do it had she tried to do it face to face. Nevertheless, he knew when she became an Althonian and she was the first member of her family to convert, followed shortly by the entirety of her family.    Over the course of the next month, her family would form a small, family-based cult around Althos that worshiped him as a deity of goodness, deception, shapeshifting, and positive change. When Althos declared that the creator of dwarves, Morehammer, was a demon lord and a deceiver, she and her family believed him and fled into his divine realm (along with a majority of the world's population, in an event known as the "Dark Exodus"), where they still live.    Life in the divine realm was and is vastly different for Isadora and her family. Many of her relatives have banded together in the copy of Comillas created in Althos' divine realm, which is currently a copy of pre-Dark-Exodus Torus. In the divine realm of her god, Isadora has spent the last few years building a new life for herself.

Life In The Divine Realm:

Inside of Althos' divine realm Isadora's life has changed for the better. No longer does she have to idly imagine what a world filled with higher beings is like, she can instead live in a world entirely created and run by her god. Isadora is in love with Althos' divine realm, and she is one of the most spectacular examples of how a divine realm can alter someone.    During the first few weeks of life in the divine realm, Isadora became a leader within the copied version of Comillas. She threw herself into the opportunity to serve her master and the man she views as Torus' savior, to the point that she earned the cleric class all by herself, a sign of her immense piety. At first, this was a simple enough task, she merely taught the servants of "Cosecha", the identity by which many of the people of Comillas knew Althos, all about their unusual, albeit shared deity.    During this time Isadora was manifesting new abilities related to lies, especially the power to detect them when they were spoken in her presence. In a dream, she questioned her lord about this and he patiently explained that it was due to her nature as a nephilim. She also gained other divine powers, such as flight, and the ability to manifest a soul weapon, which even for nephilim was a rare and potent power.    Things would change, months into her stay in the divine realm. The event that caused this change wasn't fully known to her, at the time anyway, but it was when Althos recruited several thousand angels into his angelic host, hours before Agustino's declaration of war. When Althos recruited angels from throughout the solar systems he knew of, a small feat honestly compared to what he could do now, they eagerly came and began to serve him. Some of those angels included angels of truth and of knowledge.    Angels of truth and of knowledge would spend the next few days chronicling the details of their god's life by speaking to those who worshiped him and had met him face to face. In the middle of the Demon-God War, they published an account detailing the history of the life of their god, sharing it freely throughout the god's divine realm.    This tome, which remains the single most popular book in circulation in Althos' divine realm, drove an immense amount of tourism to both Comillas generally and the Silver Xana especially. It would actually take almost half a year for Isadora to learn of the tome itself, and when she did she was able to get a copy of it that had the signatures of the authors themselves on it.    The familial cult which she ran for the first few months of her life has eventually into a full faith that is popular throughout the divine realm version of the continent of Humana. Isadora herself has gained a mini title of her own, and many humans view her as something akin to a saint that they revere alongside Althos as part of a unique faith popular in many small towns.    Isadora is also part of a faction of creatures who have no desire to return to Torus and would instead rather live in Althos' divine realm for eternity. She regularly prays to her deity and asks for his guidance, as well as how to lead the people who believe in her homemade version of Althonism.    These days Isadora is busy running what amounts to New Comillas, especially since she is the leader of the faction of locals who don't want to go back to Torus and is preparing for the inevitable day when they have to ask Althos if they could stay in his realm, instead of waiting until they die to return to the place they view as their home.   She is also learning about the power of lies from a group of angels who represent the domains and subdomains of deception and subterfuge, ones like the trickery domain, the subdomain of lies, and the subdomain of enchantment magic. It is unclear to all, including her, why these angels are so fascinated by her specifically since even in her family there are other nephilim of lies, but she is grateful for their tutelage.    A few days before Althos became an intermediate deity Isadora was surprised to learn, via a notification from the system, that Althos had granted her the spellsinger class. She took this as a sign and has begun to hone her artistic and musical talents, though to what end she is unsure.

Gender Identity

Isadora is a cisgender woman.

Sexuality

Isadora is heterosexual and heteroromantic, fully straight.

Education

For the majority of her life, Isadora's education consisted of what could be provided to her by her loving, well-meaning parents. They taught her to read, write, and do simple math, and that was about it. That said, later on in her life, she would be able to fully awaken as a Nephilim, a powerful descendant of an angel and a human, and following that she would begin to receive a much greater education.    Isadora learned of her powers and her true nature from her god and the man she considers her emperor, Althos. He would also later agree, without ever telling her, that she and all nephilim should be taught about their powers by either angels of the same type as their ancestors or a group of angels of similar things. In her case, she's getting both, an education given to her by an angel of lies, and an education brought to her by angels of things similar to lies. She is much more educated than many people in Comillas are.

Employment

For the majority of her life, she has worked for and at the Silver Xana. She did everything from help with cooking to reception and housekeeping and found her first passion as a receptionist, though it was well known, back in the old days, that she'd eventually inherit the Xana from her parents.    Once her family and the majority of the population of Torus fled through portals that appeared in every part of the world, whisking them into the divine realm of their god, Althos, her life was forever changed. She decided to embrace this new opportunity and became a major leader in the copied version of Comillas, especially of a specific faction of locals and newcomers who want to stay in this paradisiacal place controlled by their god for all of time.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Independent of Althos, Isadora's biggest accomplishment is unifying her family and becoming an unexpected, deeply influential leader even before Althos entered her life. In the wake of her faith in him and considering how her faith has shaped her life, her biggest achievement has been becoming a folk hero to many Althonians, particularly humans, and gaining both a significant following and amassing considerable influence.

Failures & Embarrassments

None that especially scar her.

Mental Trauma

Isadora has led a positively blessed life and in the town of Comillas, a peaceful, sleepy town, she has managed to avoid any life-changing traumas.

Intellectual Characteristics

Isadora is a fast learner and a savvy conversationalist. She has enhanced her intellect sharply since she began acquiring powers related to her angelic heritage, and now she seeks to learn what she can whenever she can, about a range of topics.

Morality & Philosophy

Isadora is neutral good, which means her primary motivation is to help people and her community, without any special inclination towards law or chaos. She represents some of the best of humanity, being a kind-hearted and creative problem solver and organizer who firmly and idealistically believes in positive problem-solving. Isadora is a determined worker who believes in the importance of seeing things through.
