Spirit Snake Poisoning

Write about a condition caused by an insect or animal's bite     The Naga, in their swamps, do not rely overmuch on their Patron Spirit. As Constitution is one of the Bodily Virtues, spiritual guidance does not typically come from the Serpent.   However, there are a few circumstances wherein such guidance is necessary. One such instance is the Rite of Passage for Naga. Others may include seeking an oracle for guidance in surviving adverse conditions such as droughts.   For this, the Naga priests keep Spirit Snakes close at hand. These snakes have pale blue scales with an iridescent sheen, black eyes, and horrifyingly large fangs. Their venom is a nerve agent which can kill those with weaker constitutions, but produces hallucinogenic visions for those strong enough to withstand it.   When dosing themselves, Naga typically encourage the snake to bite their right hand. This means they have a little time to lie down and breathe deeply as their heart pumps the venom to itself and then throughout the rest of their body. The initial bite is painful, but is quickly numbed. The numbing, relaxing sensation spreads up the arm to the chest, then radiates everywhere. As the radiation begins, the room will seem to fall away to the victim.   It feels as through they are leaving their body behind, floating upward and hurtling through space. Most of their vision goes dark and bright motes of light go zipping past them. If trying to contact the Serpent, they may see them either as the constellation or in a massive, glowing corporeal form. All who have claimed to speak with them say their voice is like the rustling of leaves or the rasping of scales against bark, but a thousand times louder- so loud it rattles their bones.   At this stage, those outside the experience and observing will note how the skin pales and becomes almost translucent, while the eyes go entirely white, seeming to glow from within. The victim does not convulse (at least, none have ever been recorded as doing so), and in fact lies disturbingly still until they begin to return to themselves.   As they begin to return, they feel weighted, as though instead of air or aether they are suspended and sinking in water. As they become aware of the room again the side effects kick in. The victim suffers horrible nausea, light sensitivity and muscle aches; this is one reason why Naga have not become entirely dependent on oracles as a culture. If one has been an oracle many times these side effects are not as severe, but most would not put themselves through it enough times for that to be the case.
