Flesh Behemoth

The Flesh Behemoth is an unique creature known to be able to stabilize a Planar Gate Event for an extended moment of time. It's origins are unknown, but it was discovered in Argo-Ancestral ruins and formed the basis of research into more controllable technology for Planar Gate stabilization. No other individual of its nature has been discovered it and it is believed to be the sole member of its species.
The fact that no specimens or literary reference have been found since it discovery has led researchers to believe that it might be specifically created by the Argo-Ancestral civilisation.

Description

The Behemoth at first look resembles a purple & blueish indistinct organic mass. When not active, it doesn't have any recognizable appendages or sensory organs. In fact, its inactive form lead early discoverers to believe that it just was the desiccated, mummified remains of an unknown long deceased creature.
When in the proximity of a Planar Gate event the creature will become active, sprouting several appendages that will provide function in relation to the gate.

Ligham's Flagelles

Named after famed biologist Earnor Ligham, the flagelles are hairlike filaments that upon awakening will start protruding from follicles covering the whole outer body. They were wrongly believed to be similar to hair or fur, later research discovered that the flagelles were one the creatures most important sensory organs. The flagelles are in fact keratin covered extensions of what can best be described as the creature's nervous system.
The flagelles are the main externally visible identifiers for when the behemoth is awakening. While it is still not understood how it detects the presence of a gate event, these flagelles are used to discern it's specific location. The filaments are able to detect the electro and mass disturbances created by such gates and will extend furthest towards the direction of such gate. When at least one of these touch a gates event horizon, the creature will extend it's boracan towards the gate event.

Boracan

Boracan is both used as a singular and a plural noun. The word comes form one of the rare Argo-A text that are related to the flesh behemoth. Its meaning "vibrating protrusions" is derived from the observed behaviour of these protrusions.
The boracan, like the longest of its flagelles, will grow rapidly towards the gate. They will even slightly enter the gate and then move towards its edges.
These protrusions are highly sensitive to ayr radiation. The behemoth extends itself outward into the gate to ascertain the edges based on ayr radiation on both sides of the gate. Once the gate edge is ascertained, the boracan will start to first pulsate and eventually vibrate to a specific hum (aka Brair's Hum). The hum creates a resonance with the gate, which in turns extends the existence of any multiplanar gate.
Any gate will eventually destabilize and collaps. The creature will lose parts of its boracan. However, this doesn't seem to hurt the creature in a meaningful way.

In Popular Culture

  • The Order Of The Behemoth was specifically created to care, protect and study the creature. However the order is also the sole order than can award the most esteemed medal of the empire the "Emperor's Eye" and associated title "Prime Amongst Citizens".
  • This honour was assigned the order, to reflect on their sacred duty.
  • The Lump, a collegiate organisation associated with the department of Biology. Named in reference to the Flesh Behemoth's form.
  • "Got your boracan cut?", saying referring to someone who got caught snooping around, entering a place they shouldn't, caught staying out late by a spouse, etc...
  • Origin/Ancestry
    Biomechanical (Speculated)
    Conservation Status
The Creature is believed to be still alive, but kept away from any possible gate activity to allow it to remain it is deepest stasis form. Under the Domocerathi Creed the creature is considered Sacred To Empire. The Flesh Behemoth is considered only second to the Emperor as part of the empire's glory.   The Order of the Behemoth was specifically create to study, protect and care for the creature.
