Magic in the Universe

Magic exists but is relatively rare, especially in highly populated systems where technology is more accessible and practical. Generally, magic users and arcane technology are revered but often feared by the general populace. Known as “mystics” or “arcane,” magic users are often bound to the Magistrate’s rules or operate discreetly to avoid attention. Magic-infused items, known as “arc-tech,” are expensive and typically produced in low quantities, with advanced arcane artificers playing a key role in their creation.
Within most of charted space, magical talents are regulated, and in most cases, a permit or license is needed to legally cast spells in public areas. On the other hand, in remote systems, magic is more accepted and loosely regulated, though it may be perceived as superstition. Some ships use minor enchantments to enhance shields or weaponry, but full magical ships are rare and expensive to maintain.
