Ner
From The "Isle of Urukayxl".
Before he was known as Ner (Spear in Draconic) he was out as a young hunter. Their party had gone into a cavern after prey and ended up trapped by a troll as it came in the entrance for the same thing. They were fighting in an attempt to get away, two of his hunting party had already been gravely injured. At this time a human wearing shining heavy metal armor and wielding a mighty sword burst into the entrance. With a brilliant flash of light from his blade, this mighty Paladin slew the troll, saving the hunting party. The Paladin was able to revive the other members of his party and stayed as they rested for a time. Ner was curious about this human. Usually, they were so soft and he felt sorry for them. Having no hardened scales or sharp teeth to help protect themselves. Yet this human was able to easily crush that mighty beast. The Paladin answered his questions about his weapons and armor. Both more finely crafted than anything he had seen before. He also went to his steed and brought forth an old Spear that he had come across. Though it was weathered it was still finely crafted and was beyond anything any lizardman in his village could make. The paladin said he could keep it, consider it a gift. Though this word “gift” confused him, he accepted. The paladin told him of the powers of his god and the magic he could wield, but this was beyond Ner.
Ner trained hard with the Spear as well as pikes and javelins. After a few months, his skill grew to the point that he earned the name spear. It was around this time that his curiosity started to get the best of him. What other things did humans have to offer? What else could he learn? With just this simple weapon he was able to become so much more. With that, he decided to discover what else humans had to offer.
He found other humans in his travels. Though he was having trouble relating to them. The needs and wants of humans confused him. They also had these feelings he did not understand. They would tell stories and burst out laughing. This seemed to bring them pleasure and this he understood. So he learned to laugh at their stories and the humans seemed to relax around him more. He assisted them in their travels for a while, trading services for trinkets and food. He tasted things that were quite incredible compared to the plain meat he ate with his clan.
As he made it to a town he tried to use the tricks he learned while traveling with that caravan of humans. The ability to laugh seemed to be the most useful for dealing with the confusing emotions humans experienced and seemed to help put them at ease. Though in some, this seemed to cause them to become aggressive. So confusing. He would need assistance to learn humans’ confusing ways if he wanted to advance his skills and knowledge with them. He found they had so much to offer.
The first large town was fascinating but soon became too overwhelming. Many rejected him and he would live in squalor on the streets. He finally found a group that would accept him and allowed him to travel with them on the large boat they were traveling on the ocean with. The salty waters were different from the swamps he was from but found many of skills to be very useful here.
For Ner I want him to start off very primitive. The only non primitive items he has is a trinket that is a focus used as a spell material focus on the spear he got from the paladin that saved his hunting party. Everything else is made from wood and animal parts using his Cunning Artisan ability.
