Atraetios, god of Animal-kind and Atraetia

"From the land of the dead a black cur seizes the land. A hungry beast not of this world starves in wait to consume what is not its own." - Anonymous Prophet, 1338

"Cultures left to decay, artifacts crumbling under the weight of time, history lost to the Dead Lands. This place is home to no man anymore. The mountains stab skyward as gray monoliths that stand watch across the lands, the valley between them containing a dead inland sea with tributaries flowing to the sea. Forests of trees barren of all flora and fauna unnervingly missing. Cities along the costal regions overgrown with dead vines and veins of black that extend southward. No creature alive in these places are  well met. Their eyes... you should have seen their eyes. Deep black pools of a starry sky dimly glow with black veins that extend from the eyes, the lips, twisting and turning all around the body. It is as if they are dead yet walk as the living. ..." - An account of a bardic explorer, 1856, anonymous   "The search party for the scientific expedition of the World's Edge set out in 2683, four years after the World's Edge crew set out for new lands to discover more of this world. [...] The Captain of the ship, Dr. Fhaornik Aewenys, had claimed they would sail for three years: estimating one years to find new land, one to document the land, and the last to return. The King Ibbi-Adad of Strienia allowed the World's Edge to sail with protection from the 10 Centuries War of the east side of the penninsula, and is who called us to to go and bring them home...    We arrived to the Dead Lands told in tales only eight months after the start of our voyage. First we saw of the land was the mountains. Snowcapped ridges that slice through the swirling and dense gray clouds above them. It wasn't until we were few in miles from shore did we see the forests; dense and black, completely without flora. We decided to sail around the lands, keeping watch for the World's Edge. We must have sailed for a month extra until we found what was left of the ship. Shored somewhere on the landmass, the ship was on its side and broken as if cannon fire had brought her down once landed. A party was sent with the armsmaster and Second Mate to make landfall while defensive measures were taken. Hours became days, days became weeks before another party was sent out. Two days later only the First Mate returned from the second party. He brought nothing with him: none of his personal affects, his weapons, or rations. He would not speak of what happened in the Dead Lands, secluding himself below deck for days at a time only speaking with the quartermaster for food and additional paper and ink.    With no report to be given to King Ibbi-Adad, I commandeered the First Mate's writings to be the official report. I had only heard recently that he stole his life by his own hand because of what was written in that doomed journal. I dare not read it, for it made the King Ibbi-Adad turn all spending towards his military might..." - Captain Kênexarthos the Hound (2642 - 2690)   "... I found them. They were not far inland when I found them. A town was on the horizon when their bodies were being buried by my party. ... I spotted a watchtower with my glass and made for the town with my crew after paying the dead their respects. Upon gracing the town gate with my presence, I rapped on the large iron ring and awaited response. Seaman Adept Asander was demeaned by Senior Seaman Pêrakos about his fear when the gates moved inwards, opening. ... Upon finding the keep, Petty Officer Iazadagos noted the sounds of a feast happening inside. I commanded some of the Seamen in the crew to open the doors. ... Animals, all of them. Eyes darker than the night sky bedazzeled with stars tore through my men as if paper. ... After fighting the last of them with a lone recruit, we couldn't bury our dead fast enough. A horn sounded in the distance and we had no choice but to run; whatever was to come with that horn was not worth my life. ..." - First Mate Bagdosauos (2651 - 2685, self-inflicted)
Called the Dead Lands by many that hear and repeat of its tales, Atraetios has had most of its history lost to the curse that has befallen its lands. Scientists and scholars have attempted to take research samples from accounts of explorers and on their own expeditions, but none have published any findings.
