Pranking at the University

You, new student at our magnificent University of Lille, have a duty to carry on our ancient tradition of pranking!   Come here to learn about this fine tradition!

Ancient history

Pranking is in the very bones of the University and goes back to its foundation in 1667 when our students were well known for finishing their parties in the streets of Lille, cheerfully decorated the city's statues with their clothes and teasing passersby.   Pranking has always been supported and even encouraged by the management of the University, as this is the perfect way to develop highly valuable things such as how to manage an often long-term ambitious group project and wrangle multiple people into doing anything productive. In addition, pranking is a way to develop your magic with practicals projects and challenging yourself with casting magic outside of the classroom. And finally, pranking is simply extremely fun and a way to show off and stand out and amuse your classmates.

Pranking the buildings

The most basic but still fun pranks are applied to statues, fountains and buildings. Examples of classics that every student worthy of the name has done at least once in their career are:
Put fun clothes on statues, especially on that statue's official statues-clothing days.   Level: easy.
Animate statues to say outrageous things, especially statues of ancient professors.   Level: medium.
Spell the water of a fountain to make them make figures or to splash passersby.   Level: easy.
Put colours or animated drawings on building to insult passersby.   Level: easy.
Change the aesthetics of buildings, such a making exam halls look like jails.   Level: medium.

Pranking your friends

The best way to cement any friendships and have fun! For example:
Disguise yourself as someone else and either insult or flirt with them.   Level: medium.
Change the colours and style of their clothes without telling them.   Level: easy.
Seal shut their dorm rooms to force them to climb in and out of windows.   Level: easy.
Slip potions in their drinks to change their behaviour in funny or ridiculous ways.   Level: easy.
Make impressive show of illusion or elemental magic that make crossing a courtyard difficult.   Level: medium.
Conjure animals that won't let go of people until they are thoroughly complimented and petted.   Level: hard.

Pranking students you don't like

A great way to put back in their place anyone who annoys you. Just be careful to remember who's whose parents before publicly claiming ownership of the prank... For example:
Enchant their pens—or rune chalks if you really hate them—to make spelling mistakes.   Level: medium.
Enchant their clothes or equipment to fall apart at a shameful time.   Level: hard.
Slip potions in their drinks to change their behaviour in humiliating ways.   Level: hard.
Enchant every food food they eat taste absolutely disgusting.   Level: medium.
Conjure animals that will terrify and harass them.   Level: hard.

Pranking teachers

Attention! There lies danger! Only do that under exceptional circumstances and after much provocations (such as being given an exceeedingly bad note or way too much homework, especially before holidays). Teachers have better defences and get easily upset and retaliate, or worse, complain at the direction and get them to temporarily crack down on pranking all over the university. Example of teaching pranking:
Make them forget about setting assignments and exams.   Level: dangerous, need to affect their mind.
Make them publicly insult their colleagues to start a faculty-wide war.   Level: dangerous, need to affect their mind.
Have a conjuration follow them and sings loudly to prevent them from lecturing.   Level: medium, but annoys everyone around.

You are now ready to carry on this long and proud tradition—go on into the world and do all the ancients proud!

My favourite pranks are the ones like putting clothes on statues where nobody gets hurt.

Yes, "pranking" is very often just an excuse for "bullying" :( Having fun with statues is nice at least (apart for the university administration and the royal court who don't like people to make fun of their illustrious predecessors XD)

Super cute storyline, I can tell this novel will be written for middle grade and the toils and troubles that come with fitting into a magical school of high stakes politics and a Potter-style dark lord chasing after your protagonist. Be careful on your edits as the spelling can get a little wonky. Example: "A great way to put back in their place anyone who annoys you. Just be careful to remember who's whose parents before publicly claiming ownership of the prank..." This is a complicated sentence and hard to read. Another example this could be said, "Just remember whose parents are prominent members of society before publicly claiming ownership of the prank." or as a kid would say, "Jus' remember whose Mom or Dad is in charge aroun' here." I can't wait to read some of the novel as I've added it to my reading list!

Thanks <3 Actually this novel is set in a university rather than a middle school, and my main character is a teacher, so I'm going to focus more on the other side, showing how annoying those pranks can be XD Or as the article shows, how dangerous they can become...   Thanks for pointing out that complicated sentence; I'll come back to edit it next month once WE is done.

I imagine that for many this is going to be just silly pranking, but with the way some are written I can imagine a few incidents will end up happening with things going a step too far. Just a recipe for "It's just a prank bro" territory with someone is going to get punched.   Did notice a few errors. I think in the tooltip of Shameful you meant "fail" instead of "fall", as for the middle prank with teachers I think you misplaced the colon to be after "dangerous" rather than "level".   Otherwise really liked it!

Thanks <3 Yes, exactly. All this "pranking" is too often an excuse to hide bullying, and even when it isn't, it can very easily becomes dangerous when students play with magic they don't understand just to show off...   And thank you for pointing out those typos!
