Gratic City Gates

"In the far west of the city, the Anotaash Gate stands out from the main walls of the city, a shining greyish block in the otherwise white walls. It is decorated with scenes of farmers and craftsmen making tools and jewelry. I have heard from guards that each of people on the gate have names and are often referred to in ways that I would consider crude..."   "The Domiel Gate is made of a light green limestone that comes from the White Guard Mountains. It shows a large amount of trees and a few workers chopping down those trees and building wooden buildings. There is a small wooden stockade near these gates that are for holding carts while they are being measured and their goods appraised for the purposes of being taxed..."   The Mountain Gate is of brown stone construction. One side of the gate shows The Storied Stone Tower in relief with a small number of soldiers in the space underneath it. This gate is the best-guarded of the three, with half a dozen guards dispensing their duty at all times..."   ~The City of Cities

Purpose / Function

These stone structures are meant to regulate the movement of people into and out of the city. There are two pairs of guards at every gate and six at the Mountain Gate, and these guards pull aside anyone who looks suspicious. Any merchants and any wagons are also pulled aside and a toll based on the value of the carried goods must be paid in order to enter the city.

History

This particular set of gates was constructed during the reign of Entelia I at the same time as the walls of the city. The walls of the city have only been tested a few times, but they have stood firm each time.
