Gratic City Adventurer's Board

"I have never made use of such a place before in my life, but I have been told that if you are of the adventurous persuasion - or are at least interested in the wealth and power that such a life can bring - there is a spot in The Grand Castle where one can find work through The Imperial Army. Sadly, I do not know much about the subject beyond a couple of viewings (from a distance!) of this board and the scattered words of passerby,..."   ~ The City of Cities

Purpose / Function

This board contains posters and missives of every possible kind. Most of these are mundane notices telling people to be vigilant in regards to heretical or rebellious groups and offering rewards for the capture of local criminals. A few actually detail various tasks and jobs that can be undertaken on behalf of the Imperial Army, which can include spying, monster-hunting, and exploration of ruins and caverns.

Alterations

This board has clearly been replaced recently, as the wood has a slight new smell and the nails are no longer rusted.

Architecture

It is about ten feet wide, six feet tall, and constructed of local wood. New iron nails hold the yellowed posters in place, and a bucket containing extra nails lies nearby for attaching additional notices.

History

This particular board first came into use early in the First Era, and later expansion of The Gratic Empire carried the tradition to other places. With the armies of the Empire often away east on campaign, the guards of the city were too few in number to be able to handle all of the tasks assigned to them. Enter the mercenaries and adventurers eager to collect some extra money and fame. These people took the load off of the guard so the guards could spend their time more effectively.   After the end of the Red Rose War, though, the campaigning stopped and the population of the Empire grew rapidly. Suddenly, there was little need for such boards in most towns, and many got rid of them. Only a few towns still have them at all.
