Brute Dwarves

"After the previous two races of dwarves, Sret took up his chisel and put it to the dark-green Apaesite. Unfortunately, as he finished what would have been the most beautiful of the five dwarves, he dropped it and the teeth of the first figure shattered, leaving them a pile of jagged edges...Kwist finally sat down among the Brute Dwarves and, knowing that their kind would be the least favoured due to their appearance, taught them the ways of magic so that they could alter their cruel features."   ~The Holy Tablets

Culture and cultural heritage

  • All Dwarves celebrate Sretânên every 15 Frostmonth, this being the day that Sret created their race.
  • Shared customary codes and values

  • Brute Dwarves have an innate fascination and inclination to magic, creating the most prolific group of dwarf wizards the universe has ever known. Mages and other magic-using characters will always have a home among the Brute Dwarves.
  • Brute Dwarves, as an extension of their love of magic, have a shared love of learning, with their libraries of stone tablets being filled with information about religion, magic, stone farming, and dwarvish lore.
  • Common Etiquette rules

  • Belching after drinking is taken as a compliment by the brewer; the same is not true for food though.
  • Newcomers to a town are often challenged to a game of Frewsân, a checkers-like game that is common to all dwarvish people.
  • Common Dress code

  • All dwarves not of the nobility or the priesthood wear simple clothes, just a tunic and short pants. Brute dwarves enjoy wearing green or blue clothing. Jewelry is very common, but not elaborate.
  • The noble dwarves are usually decked out in robes of yellow and orange in Brute Dwarvish communities, with jewelry being very complicated.
  • Priests in all Dwarven communities are clothed in long robes of black and grey, with gold and silver buttons.
  • Common Customs, traditions and rituals

All dwarves share a common devotion to the idea of crafting; this causes them to revere great craftsmen. A few dwarves are writers, whose craft is "wordsmithing" and the writing of epic poetry.

    Funerary and Memorial customs

All dwarves bury their dead in underground catacombs beneath their holds. If the deceased dies away from their hold, their companions must bring the body back to their hold for burial.
