PK-92 Tama'Gensan

A large terrestrial planet, it once was a lush, oxygen-rich, tropical habitat.   After the Sumu conquered and reclassified it, however, it became a poisonous, desolate wasteland. Most flora and fauna died out, and what survived changed drastically to adapt to the new toxic environment. There are massive holes bored into the earth, massive tailing piles hundreds of miles wide, and noxious swamps of wastewater.   The only two surviving hive-like cities are so massive that it is difficult to feed their billions of occupants. As long as goods, food, and manufacturing continue, the overseers are pleased. If they don't, however, gassing whole quarters with millions of people is not out of the question.

Kabuata

Indigenous race to the planet. Similar to the horseshoe crab, this humanoid, intelligent species has the armored, segmented lower body of a crab and the torso, arms, and head like a human. They have bony plates on their foreheads and vestigial mandibles to either side of their humanoid mouths.   Before their species was conquered, they had managed a moderately advanced civilization. They had rocket-based space travel and had managed basic exploration of their local star cluster before the enemy came. The planet was desirable for the Phantom Crystals. Since the crystals were difficult to mine without the presence of Kabuata, however, the entire race was subjugated and forced to work in the mines.   Forced labor took its inevitable toll on the Kabuata, but the worst was yet to come. It was discovered-some how- that the bodies of the Kabuata could be ground and ingested by other species, and that doing so could extend that creature's life indefinitely. So they were worked and consumed nearly to extinction until pressure from other more benevolent species and the need to continue mining forced the hand of the masters to take steps to ensure the Kabuata's survival. Now they live in secure labor camps where their health and reproduction can be closely monitored.

Phantom Crystals

A type of crystal that vibrates at very high frequencies so as to make them nearly invisible to the eyes of most creatures. They maintain this invisibility even when cut or worked but their high vibration makes them very brittle. However, a Kabuata naturally radiates a lower frequency that interacts with the crystals, making them visible and able to be mined without breaking them. Kabuata can also eat them and produce a byproduct that is similar to the normal crystals, but which is always visible, is less brittle, and has different properties. Both are very useful and valuable.

Sumu

The race that conquered the planet. Vaporous and incorporeal, the Sumu are able to enter the bodies and dominate the minds of other intelligent species. Once they dominate a creature, the body will morph to more closely resemble the "true form" of the Sumu; sharp, androgynous human-like features, iridescent skin, hair and eyes, and occasionally, wings made of mist and light. Dominating another creature allows them to have a solid form, which makes many things easier, but it does limit their abilities. And after a certain amount of time occupying a particular person, the original creature's will is fully dominated and the two become inseparable. Through the use of the phantom crystals and consuming the Kabuata, however, the Sumu are able to take a physical form at will and have full use of their power and abilities.   It is unknown where the Sumu originally came from, but their space travel and weapon technologies were far advanced than anything seen before in this sector of space. They quickly dominated the planet and set about creating a network of mines, foundries, and factories. The indigenous race was quickly dwindling, however, so the Sumu established the planet as a prison world and convinced other civilizations in the local star cluster to send their convicts, political dissidents, and undesirables to work the rest of their lives. Now, whole generations of people have been born, lived, and died in the mines.   The Sumu are ruled by an emperor, whom many believe to be a god. This same emperor has ruled unchallenged for as long as anyone can remember.
