The Granite Grimoire

Among the gods of the Isturian pantheonDrevok is the deity that presides over death and time, accepting the bodies of the interred and turning them back into the stone they started from.   It is said that, in their earliest days, Drevok inscribed upon stone tablets, all the information they would need to turn flesh and bone to rock and use these bodies in a variety of ways that some might consider unnatural. This is known as the Granite Grimoire, a heretical text that muddies the solemn legacy of the god of time.

Historical Details

Background

In the Isturian Creation Story, at the time Drevok first creates people from stone, it is said that they began carving into stone tablets, detailing the secrets of stone and flesh and bone. When Jokhoš released the Plague of Flesh onto them, Drevok worked how to understand how to reverse the process, something which can only be done after death. The stone tablets were bound together in a tome and buried deep within the earth, close to the god themselves.

Public Reaction

Many in Isturoth, particularly priests within the Isturian religion, consider this text to be a blasphemous myth, one that suggests that Drevok would have been so careless as to kept a record or manual of such things. If something like this text did in fact exist, it would be a highly heretical object that is not meant for the hands of mortals.   Despite this, there are those who would seek out such a hallowed artifact, keenly aware of the knowledge it possesses.

Legacy

Individuals who practice the occult are often found exhuming bodies and stealing the bones of long-dead corpses. Such sacrilege is greatly punishable in Isturian society, and so these practitioners work in secret. These dark occultists, necromancers and mystics, have sought this tome as long as the legend has been around. Should they acquire it, the untold secrets of the god of death will be spilled out to them.
