Stormbringing
While the people of Isturoth have developed complex systems for reading and predicting weather patterns, the complex scientific causes of the weather is still somewhat misunderstood.
The arrival of inclement weather is thought to be preceded or even brought about by ill omens and negative forces in the world. While one may read weather patterns and predict when a storm will arrive, one may still believe the black clouds follow the chaos where the wyrms roam.
Manifestation
The harbingers of storms, which include wind, rain, hail, snow, thunder and lightning, often have negative associations. Primary among these is the draconic wyrms that fly through the mountains. As these creatures often result in deadly attacks and destruction, they are seen to bring the bitter weather with them. Gales and other turbulent wind are often thought of as generated by the irregular beating of wyrm wings, upsetting the balance of nature. While they definitely make their homes in caverns and on cliffs, they are seen as primarily dwelling among the clouds, so when bad weather occurs, it's the wyrms that is to blame.
Another more vague cause of bad weather is the occurence of bad deeds, behaviours and emotions. While it is not a belief shared by the majority of people, it is difficult to shake such a well-established assumption, and one that is difficult to disprove. Some believe that inclement weather follows war and suffering for the same reason. Obviously, this has no real effect on stormbringing, but if it causes people to act nicer to one another, others will tolerate it!
Stormbringers
In certain parts of Isturoth, some individuals are branded as "stormbringers", individuals who are believed to possess the power to raise or prevent storms at will. Usually, anyone reputed as a weather-maker is the subject of respect, fear, and hatred in rural areas, though there are a few that attempt to profit off such a reputation, though these are merely charlatans and scam artists.
