The Dry Reach

On the Coast of Bones, there is a single outpost belonging to the Skadi of Eskarr. This is the southern-most settlement belonging to the kingdom, and is also the most isolated.   The outpost essentially acts as a watch for activity in Vokaan and as a staging point for expeditions into the desert. A brave, determined few will have chosen this place for reasons of solitude or duty, but many come here after being exiled. With no other place in Eskarr to go, they come to the Dry Reach to try and make some sort of life for themselves in the barren, dusty badlands.

Defences

A 20-foot-high sandstone wall marks the border of the outpost. It is older than any other part of the settlement, potentially dating back to the early expansion of Isturoth. There are gazebos placed evenly around the ramparts and two portcullises allow entry into the outpost.

Infrastructure

While it could scarcely be referred to as a 'town', the Dry Reach does have some facilities that make it liveable. Basic amenities such as a dock, windmill, smokehouse and forge allow the inhabitants to carve out a meager existence in the barren wastes. Trade ships may come by every now and again, bringing supplies and bartering for any wares they may have scavenged from the desert.

Architecture

While the buildings inside the walls all bare similarities to Skadi architecture. The older walls of the outposts, however, have a geometric quality that is not normally seen in the architecture and design of Eskarr. It more closely reflects the square, angular design of Isturian walls and buildings, tying it in closely with the early expansion of Lord Blackwood.

Geography

The Dry Reach sits on the water along the Coast of Bones. From the ramparts surrounding the settlement, one can look out over the ocean or over the sand dunes for miles. It is located in the midst of the western desert and badlands of Vokaan, cracked plains and scorching sand as far as the eye can see.

Climate

Despite being situated on the coast, the Dry Reach is not saved from the blistering heat and hot desert winds blowing in from across Vokaan. The inhospitable climate is year-round and only sometimes alleviated by the occasional summer storm.
