18 - 10/5 : Surrender Now Unto Oblivion
After a rejuvenating rest in the light of Narra's statue, the group awoke to a new day in Barovia. Before departing the Ruins of Berez, the group decided to examine the nearby sunken structures for anything important.
One appeared to have a cellar, but the high water had flooded it. Judge waded in, finding an old suit of scale mail that had miraculously survived untarnished due to its magical nature, and a couple casks. They seemed to bare weight, so he hauled them out.
Unfortunately a bunch of poisonous snakes spilled out the rotted back and attacked! But they proved little challenge to the party, and were easily dispatched. Once the ruins were adequately explored, the party began the return trip to Krezk.
On the way back, a pair of wounded hunters were seen being tended to by two wereravens. The group provided aid and healing, and asked what had happened. It seemed some werewolves had attacked from the forest, but were scared off after the two swooped in to defend the hunters from Krezk. They had become an increasing problem and were hunting ever closer to the village.
Unsure of whether these were Morrigans allies or not, the group decided none-the-less to intervene and see if they could track down the threat. Wixley began by looking for tracks, and easily found where they were coming from. Even at points where the ground was rocky or tracks split, she easily followed them to the werewolves home.
Werewolf Den
In the entrance, the group began their assault and quickly dispatched the werewolf sentries. Ahead, an older man cautioned them, but was made no effort to engage in combat. He had a host of wolves that Wixley told to stay back, but they still bristled and defended their master. Ahead, the party found a despicable looking shrine as well as a host of captives. A werewolf woman quickly shifted into her hybrid form and rushed to battle! She proved difficult, and was quickly joined by others who sprung from the shadows or shifted out of their wolf form. Even worse, the leader of the pack, Skennis, returned from his hunting trip and joined the fray! He proved the most difficult of the bunch of slay, as his skin was hardened to even magical attacks and only the silver arrows from Wixley managed to do their full effect. Judge held the chokepoint and kept most of the werewolves from doing any attacks to the group. Wixley continued to launch silver arrow after arrow along with Ireenas fire attacks, and slowly took down the vial lycanthropes as they thrashed away. Fabian took a horrible attack that nearly took him down, but after expending his magical meteors began striking back with his vampiric touch and regained much of his fighting ability. The fight raged on until it was only Skennis left, he fought with pure anger and fury and to his dying breath refused to yield, but finally his strength failed as Wixleys arrows found their mark. Finally the fight was over, and the group recuperated and began to explore the remainder of the den.Portraits
