11 - 04/14/25 : Making the Cut
Snow awoke in the morning for her daily jog, this time joined by Adeline. As they returned and Snow began making breakfast, they were joined by Ezri. While the trio enjoyed their breakfast, Adeline brought up the goals that each of them wanted to pursue. Snow's primary goal was working on her sword, while Ezri's only concrete goal was finding a way to control her wild magic. Adeline herself expressed a desire to find out who her father was and, to a lesser extent, find the adventurers who killed her mom, though she was unsure what she would do once this was accomplished. For today, however, the day would be set aside to completing the trials from the Golem and Cirella.
Upon arriving at the Golem's dojo, they found him in an unusually tranquil moment, as he was holding vigil for "those he was yet strong enough to save." Once he finishes, he made preparations for Snow's trial, starting with casting The Golem's Perfect Tag Team to duplicate himself. The Golem then transported the students to an extradimensional arena for the trial. The students survived 30 seconds of onslaught from the Golem, with both sides being pushed to their limits as the time ran out. The Golem congratulated them on passing his first trial, and Snow thanked her mentor with a hug before leaving for their next stop.
In Cirella's Glade, the students prepared to take the draughts that would whisk them to their shared dream to face their magic. Ezri asked how Cirella came to study magic, and she told the students how she had been hunted for the glowing eye that symbolized her clan's innate magical strength. While it was a bad memory, she learned from it that the source of her magic was herself, leading her on her path of bringing out the inner strength in others. With the question answered, the trio took the draught to begin their trial, sending them to a dreamscape where they faced reflections of themselves. Ezri's avatar caused her wild magic to surge, but in this heightened state of magic, she was able to gain some control over the surges and use them to her advantage. The mages managed to defeat the avatars of their arcane might, awakening once more in Cirella's glade.
The witch congratulated the students and asked Ezri, in particular, how it felt to face her own magic. Ezri was not sure what to make of the experience, but did seem to feel some satisfaction at winning against the uncontrollable magic she feared for so long. She asked Cirella if her mentor thought she would be able to love magic again like she had before. Cirella was taken aback by the question, but assured Ezri that if it was something she really wanted, she was sure the young gnome would find that passion again.
Having exhausted body and mind in their trials for the day, the trio returned to their dorm. Before going to bed, there was a knock at the door, and the mages were greeted by Lochlainn. He had recalled Snow and Ezri being curious about the democratic process of Fortune's Crossing and invited them to join him to watch the Forum meeting the next day. The two agreed and then promptly went to bed.
The last days trials had thoroughly worn out the usually early risers, leaving Ezri to wake up first for once. Trying to return Snow's usual kindness, Ezri attempted to make breakfast for her companions, with a little assistance from Eo Nee. Unfortunately, the two were both very inexperienced in the culinary arts, and their party members were instead awoken by the smell of burning food filling the house. The students were able to put out the flames and enjoyed a hearty breakfast made by Snow.
After their eventful morning, the students joined Lochlainn at the town square, where he showed them to the city hall. There, the forum meeting was beginning, with different citizens bringing up important matters that the town would be able to vote on how to handle. The final matter was brought to forum by Zelem Corvo. He introduced the idea of Fortune's Crossing joining the Virtuous Symposium in Revelmoore, as a way to further establish their relationship with the city across the sea, as well as make a name for themselves in the greater arena of world politics. As his presentation ended, the forum attendants were abuzz with excitement over this new prospect.
