The All-Points Legion history

Harvester of Divinity

Historians often times cite the battle of the All-Points as the moment at which the Age of Myth ended and the Age of Chaos began. Many would not recognize the name of the All-Points these days, instead knowing it as the Eight-Points. What was once a utopia of trade and cultural exchange, in a pocket world with gates tied to each of the Realms, is now a stronghold of Chaos with the Varanspire, fortress of Archaon himself, nestled in the middle of it. From there a hole through time and space has been ripped, a gaping maw opened right into the realms of Chaos for daemons to travel through on their way to invading other lands.

The battle should have ended in a victory against Chaos. Sigmar had assembled his Pantheon, with gods representing each of the Realms. Forces as disparate as Nagash and Allariele, or Gorkamorka and the Aelven gods stood allied against Chaos. The Pantheon had every confidence that they would hold this place and grind the invasion down. With the All-Points in their hands, they could easily move the bulk of their forces to any hotspot that developed as chaos cultists try to open up new fronts across the realms.

Archaon was confident of his victory too, and for good reason. He launched a feint against Shyish, knowing that Nagash would ultimately prioritize his own realm over a unified victory. When Nagash fell back it began the fracturing of the Pantheon. Eventually Sigmar, his Pantheon breaking and Ghal Maraz lost, left the battlefield to seek Nagash to punish the betrayal of the death god in a rage.
While the gods left, mortals remained. Mortals faced the combined hosts of Chaos, and mortals died trying to stop those same hosts from gaining the keys to every kingdom across every realm. They failed.

The initial souls that make up the All-Points Legion come from those who died that day. What had been disparate peoples, knights and barbarians, nomads and kingdom builders, those from lands of fire and those from the deepest woods, all had fought side by side and become comrades. Friendships, romances, and stories had all been forged between them and then seemingly ended in the blood-bath that the All-Points became.

One soul, Mattias, found himself aware again in Shyish years later. One of the first Ossiarchs formed, his skill in magic and artifice found himself reincorporated as a Soulmason in the new scheme of Nagash’s. A lot of himself remained, Nagash wanted a group with good reason to hate Sigmar to serve as the face of his overtures to the living. He was charged with growing a legion of like-souls and Mattias knew exactly who he wanted.

Through the centuries he traveled and collected the souls of his comrades. He gave bodies to those he could with as much of their souls that he could, perhaps improved or new skills added. Some had been broken, tortured by Chaos and needed more severe… intervention.

Artak and Sarlyn had once been at each other’s throats. Artak was a knight from a brilliant kingdom of shining towers, pageantry, and magic. Sarlyn had been the chieftain of a wild mountain tribe who knew nothing but the fierce struggle for survival but enjoyed every minute of it. They each commanded an army that ended up fighting alongside each other against the uprising of Chaos. What began as snide comments to each other and intense competition had ended up in each other’s tents at night, and they had been back to back on that day when Chaos claimed all.

When Mattias found their souls, they had been flayed and attached to a banner of Khorne berzerkers. They had been so impressed by the last stand of the lovers that they hooked them to their icon so they could see battle forever. One on each side of the banner, so they could never see each other but could hear the screams. Mattias was only able to salvage their bravery, their leadership and prowess by cutting away the traumatized parts and merging the two souls together. Thus Ar’lyn was born.

The All-Points Legion traveled across the realms after the Necroquake and fought Chaos where they found it, saving towns and signing Bone Tithes with them for continuing protection. They spread their disdain for Sigmar and the belief that mortals needed to depend on each other, that death was not the end of existence but the culmination of your short lives into your final form. Several times though the Legion failed to punish the living they considered innocent, or would turn to fight Chaos instead of butchering civilians. Nagash considered his experiment a failure, but Arkhan intervened. He took the Legion under his Null Myriad and made it clear how useful the Legion was for putting a positive face on the Bone Tithe and Necrotopia, even if was all just building towards the Null Terminus.

So Mattias leads his Legion to this day, rebuilding the family he once had and creating tireless defenders against chaos everywhere he goes, aware that he is fighting for a god that if it ever got everything it wanted, it would mean the end of his family once again.
