Peaks of the Impossible Pits

This mountain range is a jumble of jagged peaks and treacherous crevasses, whose depths are unknowable. Travelling across the region is incredibly dangerous, and despite the frequent landslides, the crevasses and pits never seem to become covered for long. New rents in the valley floor appear at random. The frequently changing landscape makes navigating this region difficult. Ill winds carry disembodied voices across the mountains, and give a feeling of a dangerous and haunted region. And once in a while, monstrous abominations of twisted flesh and metal crawl out of the pits onto the surface, howling and screeching in pain, and prowling the peaks forevermore. Some are clearly skaven creations, others are mutated chaos spawn, but others cannot be clearly identified as being the product of any particular arcane tradition.

DENIZENS

Clans of skaven have been spotted above and underground, and they may be the cause for the region’s tectonic instability, perhaps due to some intense mining or strange machine. Mechanical rumblings have been heard from the depths, in certain locations, and the SoilKeeper Mine on the northern peaks of the mountain range has now fully sprouted onto the surface in recent months. The SoilKeepers have built a number of skaven factories open to the air, surrounding the entrance to the underground warrens, with chimneys billowing foul warpstone smoke into the atmosphere, spoiling the crops of the Painted Folk. But sightings on the mountains also tell of much internal warfare between skaven clans, as well as with the Tenebrophant followers of Tzeench that congregate on the mountain’s eastern edges. The Tzeenchians have built a number of temples on the mountain cliffs, their meditative moanings filing the mountain air with an eerie sound that sends the weak-minded into temporary insanity and causes terrible nightmares to those who dare fall asleep within a few miles of them. They are dedicated to flesh-crafting and using the art of mutation on themselves and any… unsuspecting victims.

The Painted Folk from the Wailing Marshes have complained of kidnappings, blamed on both the Skaven and Tzeenchians, are it is likely correct that both are to blame.
