Nyklaie

The Nyklaie are nineteen deities made from pure elemental energy (Eyla) and shards of the element crystals, manifested from the energy that radiates from the element crystals themselves. They are considered personifications of the crystals, and therefore of the elements themselves, and it was the Nyklaie that provided the first Lihlsu with their abilities.   Being manifestations of the crystals, the Nyklaie and the crystals have a direct link. If the crystals deactivate themselves as a defence mechanism, the Nyklaie will disappear until they reactivate themselves. In the reverse, if any harm comes to the physical bodies of the Nyklaie or they are imprisoned (cutting off their connection from the natural world), the crystal sources are also similarly damaged. Too much damage will deactivate them, and in these cases, they can only be healed and reactivated from this state by the Nyklaie. If the crystal source is deactivated this way, the Nyklaie don't disappear - however, they are left extremely weakened.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Nyklaie are physically and anatomically identical to humans - they even lack the extra internal organ that the species they created, the Lihlsu, possess. However, some of the Nyklaie do have the ability to grow extra limbs or change the structure of their bodies if they wish.

Genetics and Reproduction

Despite not being human, the Nyklaie have an identical reproductive system to the humans and the Lihlsu.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Nyklaie were created fully-formed and mature.

Ecology and Habitats

The preferred environment of the Nyklaie is the ancestral island of the Lihlsu, as the Eyla there is incredibly potent and exists in complete harmony.

Dietary Needs and Habits

As inhuman deities, the Nyklaie do not need to eat.

Biological Cycle

The Nyklaie do not require sleep and are not affected by the passing of time or seasons.

Behaviour

The Nyklaie are usually very close with one another, and even see each other as siblings. They worked together to create the Lihlsu and help the new species build their home, and also work together to raise each new generation of the Nytha so that the Nytha grow up as close to each other as the Nyklaie are.   The Nyklaie themselves have no predators, but they are known to be hostile towards those who threaten the Lihlsu and are particularly protective of the Vialaie, who are their direct descendants, and the Nytha, who they consider to be younger siblings. This bond with the Vialaie and the Nytha is so strong that the perceived extinction of the Liadan family, Vialaie descendants of the Nyklaie Elisen, and the deaths of both the last Ice Nytha and the Naelynn family, Vialaie descendants of the Nyklaie Lysanthir, contributed to the mental breakdown of both Elisen and Lysanthir following the Hunter's invasion.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

As inhuman beings, they are not bound by the limitations of a mortal's senses. They have exceptionally high senses and, like the Cídyi Íshlak'í and the Rídya'da (to a extent), they possess an extra sixth-sense - the ability to see the field of Eyla that exists in the air.

Civilization and Culture

History

It is unknown exactly when the Nyklaie were formed, but they were created sometime after the end of the Ellian civilisation, as they have not left the ancestral island of the Lihlsu often in their lives and yet they were not present to witness the destruction of the Ellian people, nor see what caused it.   What is known is how they were formed. When the island first formed, the formation of the island created a cave system, in which special crystals grew. These crystals later came to be known as the element crystals, and they radiated pure elemental energy. Following the fall of Ellia, for reasons that are still unclear, shards from each of the nineteen types of crystal in the cave suddenly broke off one day.   Over time, these shards accumulated and absorbed the Eyla that their parent crystals gave off until one day they had absorbed enough Eyla that the energy manifested itself into something physical. However, instead of manifesting as one of the elements as Eyla typically does, the Eyla instead manifested as nineteen human-looking deities. It is believed that this happened instead due to the flow of magic, which sometimes carries out acts of sentience, that is interwoven with the fabric of the universe enchanting the fallen shards - allowing them to create a group of powerful deities. These deities later named themselves the Nyklaie.
