Session 28: Starry Nightmares
35th of Snowmelt (Petrified dreaming)
General Summary
Indra and Felix find themselves standing in a starry room, and watch as their entranced party members stare up at nothing. Unbeknownst to them, Uthal, Killian and Leaf all feel something clawing at their minds, and receive visions of things that they might desire. Not long after Indra and Felix rush over to their stunned bodies to attempt to help them, three new creatures arrive at the scene. These are 'Xol-lathar', ghouls that seem to have broken free from the influence of the Feaster. Though the Indra and Felix asume them to be allies for this same reason, their perception of the situation quickly changes as their leader, Meriodas, offers them a deal. He explains that there is no saving their entranced friends, and that he will offer some explanation as to what is happening if Felix and Indra help kill their allies. Though the other two Xol-lathar start attacking their companions, Felix and Indra make an attempt to free their friends and de-escalate the situation. They succeed in their first goal, eventually breaking free from the influence that had a hold on them. However, as their returned party members now clearly have the symbol of the Feaster in their eyes, the Xol-lathar seem uncomprimising and continue the assault.
Discussion on whether or not to kill Uthal, Killian and Leaf eventually halt, as a low beastly rumble can be heard from somewhere in the void above the party. This is the creature that the Xol-lathar were hoping to avoid by killing those that had received visions, a Star Mimic. The Xol-lathar and the LUKI Four join forces against this new threat, which proves to be a very dangerous foe. As its many tentacles with mouths and eyes attempt to tear appart the other combatants, the party hammers it with fireballs and well-placed weapon attacks. Things get really troublesome for a bit, after Killian is swallowed by the creature just before it knocks out Leaf. Luckily, through some combined healing and strong attacks the party quickly rises back to their feet. Eventually, only one of the Xol-lathar perishes during the combat, and despite having multiple party members go down, the fight is eventually won when Felix stabs out the main eyes of the Star Mimic. As the Star Mimic dies, the party awakens from this nightmarish starry prison into their beds within the petrified dreamwalking, trying to make sense of what had just transpired.
