Tord
Tord der Bakker (a.k.a. Uncle Tord)
Tord is like an uncle to me, and he's known me since a little after I was born, when my parents stopped in Tariad. Apparently, he used to be able to hold me in one hand, I was so small.
I don't know how my parents know Tord, but I do know that he used to be a mercenary specifically used for "dirty jobs". He was the man folks called on when you needed something "taken care of". He was known to be ruthless and bloody, and was a specialist in what he did. Unfortunately there came a night when a target fought back and with much more skill than he had been led to believe they would have, and Tord ended up badly injured. He would have died, if not for a woman named Alfhild, who found him at the side of the road and risked everything to save his life.
Over the course of his recovery Tord fell in love with his rescuer and, after speaking with Ruger, made the choice to give up the “dodgy shit” to be with his beloved in the city. They now have a daughter, Ella, and run the Der Bakker General Goods store in the Temple Corner District near the north-west gate. While Tord now runs a legitimate business, he still has some of his old contacts, and on occasion, has been known to... temporarily store items of interest to the authorities... in order to repay old friendships and debts. He's the one who put me in touch with Ruger and the Gateses.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Tord is a huge man, even bigger than Fallon, though not quite as tall as Rhogar. He's also incredibly strong, so I'm pretty sure he has some Giant blood in him.
Body Features
Tord is huge at six foot nine, and he's ultra wide as well. Even in his fifties he's very muscular, and he's obviously strong, easily able to lift heavy crates and boxes without breaking a sweat.
Facial Features
Tord has a jovial-looking face with a massive beard and lots of hair. He has lovely blue eyes and his right ear is torn at the top, though he says he can't remember how it happened.
Apparel & Accessories
Tord tends to wear regular merchant attire these days, often in greens, greys and tans. He has a pair of boots that he loves, and he refuses to replace them, instead getting Lettie to repair them for him.
Specialized Equipment
Tord has two hammers, his "business hammer" and his "show hammer". The show hammer is the one he uses day-to-day, usually around the shop, while his business hammer is the one he used to use in his mercenary days. The business hammer is called Øde, which I've been told means "desolation". His show hammer is called Ørn, meaning eagle. He tells me that Ørn is significantly fancier than Øde, but as I have never seen Øde, I could not say for certain.
Mental characteristics
Employment
Tord used to be a mercenary with the Dödsgänget, basically acting as the muscle and intimidator. If you needed someone scaring, threatening, or generally pummelling to a paste, Tord was the one you hired. After almost getting killed, he decided to leave that life behind, and set himself up as a General Goods Merchant in the city of Osthaven. He still has links to some of his former Dödsgänget colleagues, but now he's mostly legit.
Social
Contacts & Relations
Tord was once a member of the Dödsgänget and still has some contacts from those days. He also has many trading contacts related to his General Store business.
Family Ties
Tord has no family other than his lovely wife, Alfhild, and his daughter, Ella. Otherwise, he considers the former members of his mercenary group his family, especially Ruger, who is like a brother to him.
He also considers my parents family, and treats me and Fallon like a niece and nephew. He is, in fact, very protective of me.
Social Aptitude
Tord comes across as jovial and merry, but can easily switch to darkly angry at a moments notice. He can be quick to reach for Ørn, in some circumstances, and I have been told he may have intimidated Magpie at one point. He is a confident man, and generally has a great deal of patience, but knows his limits.
Hobbies & Pets
Tord is a big softie and likes to feed the street cats that live beside his shop.
