1.1 Creation of the Realm of Story

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. Everything in it was His, and everything was subject to Him. He had a law for the people and all that there was.

“Where will this law be kept?” asked somebody.

“It will be written on the people’s hearts and in their minds,” God answered.

“What if we forget?” the speaker questioned.

“I will send a helper, My Spirit, who will live inside all those who respond to Me and My Son.”

“Ah,” the speaker thought for a moment, “But what of those who don’t respond? Is there anything else they can see?”

“I will write down my laws through the people of the earth. They will hold them together in a book of My Word. If they still do not listen, there is nothing I can do for them.”

The speaker nodded, “I see. So, where will this book be kept?”

“In the hands of all My People.”

“I see…” the speaker was doubtful of the plan.

God responded, “It will spread through writings and words and pictures throughout the earth. Every person in every generation will get a chance to hear and respond. The books will fade and be translated into various languages, will come in many shapes and sizes, with or without maps, notes, and study guides – but My Words will not fade. They will not return empty or void. Through the souls, hearts, and minds of My people will My laws and ways resound. Fear not, little one, I can see all. I see your doubts and confusion. If it pleases you, My book will be available in stores, online, as apps, and in libraries. It will be in hotel rooms, given at schools, and posted across billboards and clothing.”
“I’m sorry,” bowed the speaker, “I should not have doubted You. You have planned out the history of life and know every choice made. I can only ask Your forgiveness.”

God chuckled in a Fatherly way, “Arise, young one, you have been forgiven. It is good for you to question the world. It gets misguided and muffled and constantly turns away from Me. But I have a job for you. A job that involves many questions – though you won’t be asking Me, but My people, using these questions to point them towards Me.”

The speaker stood up quickly, excitement and gratitude watering in their eyes, “Anything You ask of me – I will do all I can for You!”

God chuckled again, patting the speaker on the head, “I love your enthusiasm. Now, remember I mentioned a library?”

“Yes! Your book will be in there!”

“It shall. But it will not be the only book. There will be many books, some that point to Me, and some that point away from Me. Not all the stories in these books will be real – they come from seeds of truth, but are seen through the Realm of Story.”

The speaker tilted their head, “The Realm of Story?”

“Yes. Here, I will show you.” God stood up and spoke a word. A wonderful word, filled with colour and splendour and glory. It was not like the previous words He had used to create the heavens and the earth – there was life, but no breath in it. It seemed a reflection of sorts of His previous creations.

“Ideas flow through here. No living matter resides, but My people will use this as a doorway to relate to Me, My world, and each other. It serves to teach them, challenge them and entertain them. It will provide a living for some, an escape for some, and an excuse for others. Not everyone will use it wisely, and that saddens Me. But those who use it for Me make My heart dance.”

The speaker stood without saying a word or having a thought cross their mind. They just saw and heard and absorbed as much as they could of this incredible moment.

God turned to them, looking them in the eye, and smiled, “Your job is in here. Many people will come, sacrificing a bit of their sanity to try and tame the ideas swirling about in the Realm of Story. You are to help them build their own libraries, rooted in this realm.”

The speaker was astonished, “God, I-I could never create something so wonderful as You – I ..”

God smiled, putting a hand on their shoulder, “No, little one, by yourself you could not. But I will be inside You. Use Me to do My will. There will be much work to be done. You will be put on the Council of Story and will get to see everyone who steps through any of the many doors into the Realm. It will be your home forever.”

“God - … That is a lot of responsibility.”

“Yes. I trust you with this task. But it will not be easy. And you will not be recognised. You will be an invisible presence on the council, though the council will not be able to run without you. None who enters will recognise you, nor will any recognition of your work go to you. You will create many libraries, but not all will be seen, even though they will all be used. And those who do use the libraries as libraries will not know their origins. Some will search for you, without knowing who or what you are, but you must not interact with them. See and do. Regulate, build, watch over, and counsel, but do not interact with My people.”

The speaker stared into God’s eyes and saw only love. “I don’t understand,” they whispered.

“If they find you, they may place you in their hearts where I should be.”

The speaker’s eyes widened and they shook their head. “N-no. That cannot be. I am not fit to be placed anywhere as nearly as high as You. Only You are so holy, majestic, full of righteousness and love. Only You can fulfill Your people. I would just disappoint and make a mess of things.”

“Thank you, little one. Before anyone sees you, you must point the way to Me.”

The speaker looked into God’s eyes and saw nothing else. Felt nothing else. The gravity of the task was upon them as God requested, “Will you do this?”

They nodded and swallowed, “I will.”
