Extraordinaries

The Extraordinaries are a family of superhero adventurers, who travel and fight evil both at home and in cosmic realms, to protect Earth from the unknown. They’re based in Extraordinary Tower, located in Manhattan.   Initially, it consisted of brother Silas and Patrick Shepard. It has since grown to include Patrick’s wife Oriona, their adopted children Ken and Gwen, Gwen’s husband Vance, their daughter Stella, Ken’s adopted children Barbara and Billy, and their pet alien dragon Kyro.

History

The family was founded by brothers Silas and Patrick Shepard. Silas is a bounty hunter, Patrick is a scientist. They ventured around the world during the late 1950s and early 1960s, battling various evildoers, while using their talent and wits to stop evil and improve communities. They became renowned heroes throughout, and enemies of certain groups. Silas and Patrick joked that they fight bad guys when they aren’t fighting each other.   One day, on one such adventure in Eastern Europe, they came across a crash landed alien ship. Inside was a human-like alien, an Incarnate, who escaped persecution from a great threat. Her name was Oriona. In order to save herself while injured and on the front of an attack, she granted Patrick her psionic abilities. They fought off the alien threat, and took her to safety.   After it became clear that they needed to band together and explore the unknown, the Extraordinaries were founded. Based in New York City, they made it their goal to explore where few would dare to go. Patrick’s uncanny mind allow him to invent creations that were far ahead of his time. In fact, corporations paid him not to release many of them to the public so as to not drive the technology too high and them out of business.   Patrick and Oriona became lovers, and yet they would often squabble over things, sometimes petty. A point of contention being how Earth operates compared to the Incarnates, and Silas often found issue with Oriona for that reason. But that being said, they always operated closely and made up after a while.   The initial trio were the ones who discovered Atlantis in the ‘60s, and convinced them to open themselves to the world after they fought off the rival Abyss kingdom, led by the tyrant Deluge. That was also where they adopted Deluge’s twin children, Ken and Gwen, and inducted them into the Extraordinaries.   As they’ve traveled throughout many reaches, they took part in notable conflicts, helping out various planetary populace against corrupting forces, and were hailed as heroes throughout the galaxy. Silas and Patrick at one point were hit by a flux wave that slowed their aging as a side effect, allowing them to continue longer than they logically should, and allowed them to fight alongside their children as they grew.   On a cosmic journey, Gwen met the exalted alien noble Vance, part of a technopathic Desar race that was taken over by a section of the Collective. The Extraordinaries assisted him in taking back the planet, while Gwen and Vance struck a relationship. In the ensuing battle, the Collective destroyed the planet to make sure no one could get it. While many lives were saved, many more were lost, reminding everyone that the Collective would sooner destroy something than surrender it.   Vance was inducted into the Extraordinaries, and the rest of the Desar migrated to Earth, settling in New Mexico, which laid the groundwork for Interstellar City. Gwen and Vance would have a daughter named Stella, who inherited attributes of both of them.   Their success continues to this day. Ken would adopt two superhuman children after rescuing them from a trafficking operation, and they got a pet alien dragon in the form of Kyro, who they adopted when he was rescued from enslavement.   Today, the Extraordinaries represents three generations of heroes from all different walks of life, banded together by a bond that goes beyond blood.

Dare to be extraordinary.
