The Blood Moon

Summary

The Blood Moon is an arcane theory and folk legend.
"When the Four Ancient Giants of Clocktown are unearthed and destroyed, a ghostly blood red moon will appear in the sky, and the undead armies of The Demon King will rise along with it."
According to restricted texts found in the Naydra Archives, the Blood Moon was engineered by Yiga sorcerers shortly before the destruction of Luna Majoris. They learned that while the exterior of the moon was a rocky shell, the interior was made of organic flesh -- allegedly the gestational shell of an unborn deity. They used the Demon King's magic to place a baleful curse on the living moon. As all living things pass into spirit after death, they intended to use a variation of necromancy to snare the ghost of Luna Majoris and place it high into the sky.   This ghostly "blood moon" could then be used as an arcane focus for epic dark magic, allowing them to reanimate the ancient army of the Demon King spread across Verden and take the whole continent by surprise.   When Luna Majoris struck and destroyed Clocktown, the god within the moon, Majora, was "born." The Yiga Clan was unable to complete the Blood Moon ritual due to its unexpected interference.   -   A fallen cleric named Xer is currently attempting to summon the Blood Moon in order to defeat the Olimandias Hegemony.

Historical Basis

The Blood Moon arcane theory is supported by texts written by Master Sorcerer Kendamos. The fact that the Hegemony banned the texts and confined them to the Naydra Achives alongside other dangerous thoughts and relics supports the validity of the threat.   Kendamos also elaborates that Majora tainted the Demise-cursed flesh of the moon and inadvertently created a substance known as Malice, corrupting the Four Giants and turning them hostile to all living things. The living moon remains trapped within their gargantuan bodies in the form of Malice.     The Estuvaris Institute of Arcane Arts learned that one of the Four Giants was buried underneath a Goron settlement on Snowhead Mountain in the Termina region. They dispatched warriors and arcane knights to attack the Goron village and steal the remains of the Giant known as Goht. They brought it back to Van'Duras for study, and were seemingly in the process of using it as a power source in the Estuvaris tower.   Goht was set free by Sev Coretann, a Zal'saar agent posing as a disgruntled archmage. It was then destroyed by The Hart and Souls party of adventurers -- aided by Shadow Huntress Masika and Eliana Nadir, a Blood Hunter and Legends Alliance officer.   A ghostly red crescent moon then appeared in the sky, confirming the arcane theory.
