Culture
Major language groups and dialects
The Skyborn dialect is an extremely lazy version of common with lots of hyphenated words. A small few of them also speak Faye.
Culture and cultural heritage
Bard, Lord of Joy inspired the people of the Sky to leap into the wind and soar wherever it might take them. A good life is not determined by wealth or power, prosperity is not found through politics and fame. Life is what you love. That, is the Skyborn way.
Shared customary codes and values
The Skyborn consider it inexcusably rude to interrupt someone while they are making merry for any purpose other than joining the party. It is also customary for the Skyborn to travel around as much as possible and see the world.
Common Etiquette rules
Tipping one's hat, even if it's an imaginary hat, is the proper greeting for strangers. Friends usually greet with a joke.
Common Dress code
The Skyborn often cover themselves from head to toe in leather and other animal based clothing. They have an obsession with blending in, the only visible reminder of the Westflight Exodus.
Art & Architecture
Usually trees carved with depictions of song and drinking, the suspended city of Skydance is a marvel of desperate inventiveness.
Common Customs, traditions and rituals
The Skyborn have four massive festivals each year, one per season. They also celebrate... Well, anything of import that happens really.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
Newborns are christened with an ancient song, the Lullaby of Winter's End. A bittersweet memory of the world before the Fall.
Coming of Age Rites
Skyborn are only truly adults once they've visited another kingdom and experienced another culture.
Funerary and Memorial customs
The fallen are given to the Dragons as food, returning those lost to creatures of the sky. After the funeral, the Tale of the Three Heroes is sung in every tavern across Sundance city.
Common Taboos
Summoning is a magic the Skyborn do not tolerate. Harming children for any reason is also considered inappropriate.
Common Myths and Legends
LeBa of the many Tongues, who learned every language under the sky.
Rindla Demon Bane, who entered the Wailing Wood alone and survived.
Enya Drakewife, who proved that humans and Dragons can in fact interbreed.
Historical figures
LeMonic, the first Windcaller.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
The iconic rusty skin of the Skyborn is considered extremely attractive, the ideal color being close to brown, but not quite. Also, the clearer the eyes and longer the hair the better.
Gender Ideals
While both play instruments and sing, men are usually the adventurers and women often brew masters.
Courtship Ideals
Either party can begin the pursuit and both are expected to start with a song, but should end with both drinking each other under the table. It is considered extremely attractive to have high alcohol tolerance.
Relationship Ideals
Both partners should be able to make each other laugh and should try to make life as enjoyable as possible for each other. Children should be encouraged to explore and make mistakes.
