Dragons

The largest sapient race

Sky-lizards of doom

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragons are large winged lizards with four limbs, long necks and a tail. Their frontal appendages act as arms, front legs and wings while their back legs are simply legs. They can come in a wide variety of colors and each Dragon has unique horns. Their predatory eyes are almost always neon blue.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragons reproduce sexually and lay eggs approximately one month after conception. The development within the egg can last anywhere from three to five months, depending on the size of the mother. Dragons only lay one egg at a time.

Growth Rate & Stages

After the egg stage, mother Dragons will protect and care for their young for another five months. Once its wings are fully developed, it is booted from the nest. At this point, the father takes over and teaches the young Dragon for the next ten years. Once this time is up, the young Dragon is considered an adult.

Ecology and Habitats

Dragons thrive in tall mountains and hot regions. Hellscape and the Solscorched Planes are well known stomping grounds of the Dragons.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Dragons consume their own body weight in meat each month. They also require significantly more sulfur than any other species and only drink about one hundred gallons of water every year.

Biological Cycle

Dragons shed their scaly armor once every fifty years and are vulnerable to attack during this time. Unlike other lizards, Dragons are warm blooded and are active year round. Imprisoned dragons will enter a hibernation-like state and forgo shedding.

Naming Traditions

Dragons do not destinguish between male and female when it comes to names. All Dragons are named in adjective noun or adverb verb format.

Beauty Ideals

Wide wings, long horns and hot breath are all considered beautiful by the Dragons, while coloring and teeth quality come in at a close second. Most other features are considered matters of personal preference.

Courtship Ideals

Female Dragons make the first move in courtship and the process usually lasts about thirty years.

Relationship Ideals

Dragons are expected to develop strong telepathic links to their spouses, while their offspring are treated more like pupils. Spouses are expected to become one in mind and of single purpose.

The Dragon tongue has two dialects, the Eastern and Western. The Western tongue is considered true Dragonspeech, while the Eastern has been influenced by the Mortals.
