Session 66: Drelnza Defeated!
General Summary
The heroes spent two days recovering in the caverns, nursing wounds, regaining spells, and planning their attack on the centre of the Greater Caverns.
With a plan of action, they opened the sixth and final door to the central chamber and were greeted by a wall of dark swirling fog. Brimble Knackles sent in Gil the Owl, but no vision came back from his winged friend. Undetered, Brimble and his companions passed throught the fog.
They found themselves on a ledge midway up a spherical chamber some 50 feet across. Five other doors and ledges surround the sphere. At the base, a platemail clad woman rose from a marble slab. Treasures surrounded her. From the ceiling hung a wondrous lanthorn that cast an amber light throughout the space, and revealed the heroes despite the invisiblity spell cast upon them by the gnome.
The woman invited them in and asked for their aid and Rivine took up this conversation asking of the woman's history. At the same time Brimble flew to the ceiling and threw a sack over the lanthorn , dimming it's light and thus hiding his invisible companions. Soon thereafter, Mitsu knocked his arrows and the companions fell upon the woman.
A most strange battle began with the heroes flying about the chamber and the woman walking up the curved walls and ceiling as if gravity had no effect. It quickly became apparent that this was Drelnza, supposed vampire daughter of Igwilv and guardian of her treasure. She was aided by four Caryatid Columns at the chambers base, but they were little trouble for the flying heroes. Only Rivine suffered much from Drelnza's sword and bite, but even so, Jolee Bindo 's fists and Mi'tsuru'gi 's arrows drove the creature to mist form and escape and eventual death.
After the battle, the companions, examined the marble slab upon which recently Drelnza lay. Brimble cast Leomund's Tiny Hut guard their investigation and eventually they managed to remove the slab and uncover Igwilv's treasure within the vampire's coffin below: the Prison of Zagyg and a Demonicon to add to Daod's Wondrous Lanthorn that Brimble eventually recovered from the ceiling of this most strange chamber.
